Miestowski places fifth at Indiana Junior Golf Championships

CARMEL | Alexis Miestowski, 13, of Schererville, placed fifth amid a field of 90 a the Indiana Golf Foundation Girls State Junior Championships, held June 9-11 at Twin Lakes Golf Club.

Miestowski shot a 54-hole, 16-over-par score of 232.

Kylie Shoemake, also of Schererville, placed ninth; Tiffany Curtis, of Crown Point, placed 12th.

Hanover Central to host sports physical day

ST. Diamond Kings holding MLB Summer Skills Baseball Camp

SCHERERVILLE | The Diamond Kings MLB Summer Skills Baseball Camp for ages 6-14 will be held at the Schererville League Baseball Fields, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 1-2. Former professional and collegiate players and coaches from the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs and Windy City Thunderbolts will instruct hitting, pitching, fielding and game situations, and run skill competitions for prizes. HOBART | The Summer Brickie Tennis Academy is holding a variety of programs at the Hobart High School Tennis Facility, 2211 E. 10th St.

They include 10-and-under day camps which include three-day sessions of June 16-19 and June 23-26, from 9 to 9:45 a.m. for ages 4-6 (cost $110 per session) and from 10 to 11 a.m. for ages 7-10 (cost $120 per session).

* Brickie Youth Team Tennis will run from July 1 to Aug. 7. Level I (ages 4-6) will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; Level II (ages 7-11) will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $55 for one night a week and $95 for two nights a week. * Middle School, High School and USTA Development for beginner, intermediate and advanced players will run from June 30 through Aug. 6 (six-week session). The Junior Development and Excellence Program for junior varsity-level and middle school players will run Mondays and/or Wednesdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $75 for one day and $130 for two days. The USTA and Varsity Academy, which will focus on instruction, training, strategy and match play, will run Mondays and/or Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $96 for one day or $170 for two days. Summer Basketball League at The Fieldhouse

MERRILLVILLE | The Summer Basketball League at The Fieldhouse-Merrillville, 899 East 99th Court, for boys and girls in grades 3-8 will start June 24. Tennis programs starting at Match Point, Andrean

A variety of summer tennis programs are being held at Match Point Tennis Club, 1111 Reyome Dr., Griffith, and Andrean High School, 5959 Broadway, Merrillville.

10-and-Under Tennis, which will use age-appropriate equipment, will be held on Tuesdays (June 17, 24, July 8, 15, 22, 29, Aug. 5 and 12) from 4 to 5 p.m. at Match Point, and on Fridays (June 13, 20 27, July 11, 18, 25, Aug. 1 and 18) from 4 to 5 p.m. at Andrean. Cost for each eight-meeting program is $75.

USTA Jr. Team Tennis will run from June 9 to July 17 at Match Point Tennis Club. Co-ed team matches, with events in boys singles and doubles, girls singles and doubles, and mixed doubles. All matches will be played at Match Point on Thursdays at 4 p.m.; team practices and instruction will be on Mondays at 4 p.m. Cost is $125 per player -- current USTA membership is required.

The USTA Jr. Team Tennis Northwest Indiana Traveling League, where co-ed teams play home and away matches in Lake and Porter counties starting June 10. Cost is $40. USTA membership is not required.

Junior Tennis Camps will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at Match Point; and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at Andrean.

Start/Restart, an instructional program for adults who want to play tennis for the first time or to get back in the game, will be held Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at Match Point starting July 16. Cost for six meetings is $75 per player.

Mylan World Team Tennis, a coed recreational league for adults, will be held on Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m. at Match Point starting June 23. Cost is $85 per player.
