Babe Ruth Baseball umpire/coaches clinic May 18

CROWN POINT | A final National Babe Ruth Baseball umpire/coaches clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 in the dome of the Crown Point Family Fun Center, 1301 Merrillville Road. Registration will start at 8 a.m. All youth league umpires and coaches, and anyone interested in becoming an umpire with national certification, are encouraged to attend. An open-book National Certification test will be given to first-time umpires. Returning umpires can become recertified, but do not have to take the test. The cost of the clinic alone is $25, which includes lunch, plus $45 to take the certification test or to recertify.

Soderholm, Popovich to appear at Bridges' Scoreboard

GRIFFITH | Former Chicago Cub Paul Popovich and former Chicago White Sox Eric Soderholm will be signing autographs and taking photos with fans from 7 to 9 p.m. May 8 at Bridges' Scoreboard Restaurant and Sports Bar. Cost for football players is $150 for one player in a family, $225 for two siblings, $275 for three siblings, and $50 extra for each of four or more siblings.
