Emery to appear at Bridges' Scoreboard Wednesday

GRIFFITH | Ray Emery, goalie for the Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup champions, will appear at Bridges's Scoreboard Restaurant and Sports Bar, 121 N. Griffith Blvd., from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets are on sale on. VIP tickets are $75 each and include being called up first to meet Emery, two autographs, a guaranteed seat if arrived by 6 p.m., an 8-by-10 photo of Emery holding the Cup to get signed, and a guaranteed photo with Emery. General admission tickets are $50, which includes two autographs from Emery.

Trek Bicycle Store to hold Tire Fry bike rides

SCHERERVILLE | Trek Bicycle Store of Schererville will be putting on a pair of "Trek Tire Fry" bike rides in July. They will consist of a metric century (62 miles) on July 13 and a full century (100 miles) on July 14that will utilize roads in Northwest Indiana and Northeast Illinois. The rides will have support vehicles on course as well as food and support stops along the routes. An after-ride party including food, water, music and beer will be included.

South Town Fall Ball softball registration

SCHERERVILLE | South Town Fall Ball softball registration will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and July 8 at the St. John Community Center, 1515 Lincoln Hwy. Ron Kittle to hold Retro Jersey Motorcycle Ride

COUNTRYSIDE | Ron Kittle's Retro Jersey Motorcycle Ride will take place Aug. 17 starting and ending at the Illinois Harley Davidson, 9950 Joliet Road. Registration is at 9 a.m.; first bike out is at 11 a.m.; last bike in is at 4 p.m. Registration is $55 per person on site and $50 before Aug. 10; VIP registration is $155 per person and $135 before Aug. 10. All registrants receive continental breakfast, ride T-shirt, sponsor giveaways, after ride party access, food and drink ticket, 100-mile ride map and free entry for one-week vacation. VIP registrants will receive '83 replica Kittle jersey, VIP group photo, a special gift and will ride with Kittle's group.

HOMEWOOD | The Village of Homewood will hold "Bike the Dixie" and the "Downtown Homewood Classic" Sunday.

Bike the Dixie, a free event which will run from 8 to 11 a.m., is a non-competitive five-mile loop through the neighborhoods. The Homewood Classic, which will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., is a competitive race drawing professional and amateur cyclists from around the midwest.

Pro badminton action at Whiting Community Center

WHITING | The Indiana Racquets will take on the Seattle Smash in National Badminton League action 2 p.m. Friday at Whiting Community Center, 1938 Clark St. The dual will feature two-time Olympian and five-time Czech champion Petr Koukal, three-time Dutch champion Eric Pang, and 2011 U.S. National champion Ilian Perez. Admission is free.

The NBL Pro-Am will take place a 10 a.m. Friday at the center. It is limited to eight amateurs, who will play a round-robin doubles tournament with a blind-drawn pro. Entry fee is $100.

On Monday through Wednesday, Pang will hold a three-day badminton camp for juniors and adults. It will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. for ages 9-13, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for ages 14-18, and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for adults. Cost is $75 per person.

Finn Passing Academy at Andrean

MERRILLVILLE | The fourth annual Finn Passing Academy, conducted by former Andrean quarterbacks Billy, Bobby and Tommy Finn, will be held July 15-17 at Andrean High School, 5959 Broadway.

The academy, open to students entering grades 5-9 in August, runs daily from 9 a.m. to noon. It will focus on the essentials needed to run a successful passing game, as well as the leadership skills that great quarterbacks possess, qualities all three of the Finns were known for during their careers.

Participants are asked to wear shorts or sweats, a t-shirt and football shoes. They should also bring a mouthpiece, water bottle and tennis shoes in case the weather forces a move indoors. Scheduled guest speakers include Andrean coach Phil Mason, Lake Central coach Brett St. Germain and Portage coach Wally McCormack.

Lansing Old Timers holding baseball tournament

LANSING | The Lansing Old Timers will host a baseball tournament for ages 8U, 9U and 11U from July 18 to July 23 at the Lansing Old Timers Complex, 16500 Chicago Ave. In-house all-star teams and part-time travel teams (less than 25 games together) are eligible -- no metro or full-time travel teams. Team fees are $425.

The format will consist of three-game pool play plus championship. Basic Little League rules for Pee Wee, Minors and Major levels will be employed. Teams may have a maximum of 15 players. Birth certificates and proof of insurance required.
