CAL COLLEGE UPSETS NO. 1 ROBERT MORRIS IN OT: Robert Jackson (Hammond) scored a team-high 19 points as Calumet College knocked off NAIA Division I top-ranked Robert Morris 92-85 in overtime.

Roddy Richardson added 18 for the Crimson Wave (12-12). Karl Anderson (Crete) had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Brannon Jones (Hammond) had 15 points and nine rebounds.

UCONN WANTS TO IMPOSE OWN PENALTIES: The University of Connecticut has proposed reducing the number of games it will play next season if the NCAA grants a waiver to allow the Huskies to play in the 2013 men's basketball tournament.

The school currently would be barred from the NCAA tournament, a penalty for years of below-standard academic results, but it requested a waiver last month.

That document, obtained this week by The Associated Press under a Freedom of Information request, outlines proposed self-imposed penalties to be instituted if the request is granted.

Those include forfeiting the revenue awarded to the Big East for participating in the 2013 tournament, reducing the number of regular-season games played in the 2012-13 season from 27 to 23 and barring coach Jim Calhoun from meeting off-campus with prospective recruits during the fall 2012 contact period.

SMITH SCORES 28 AS HAWKS BEAT PACERS: Josh Smith scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, leading the Hawks to a 97-87 victory over the Pacers on Wednesday night that snapped Atlanta's three-game home losing streak.

Joe Johnson added 20 points for the Hawks, while Kirk Hinrich (17) and Tracy McGrady (13) contributed valuable minutes off the bench.

Danny Granger scored 21 points to lead the Pacers, who couldn't overcome the big deficit after winning the night before at home.

Indiana has lost nine straight in Atlanta, a streak dating to 2006.

BEARS HIRE HOLT AS OFFENSIVE LINE COACH: The Bears have hired Tim Holt as their offensive line coach.

The move announced Wednesday completes the coaching staff for next season. Holt takes over for Mike Tice, who was promoted to offensive coordinator after the departure of Mike Martz.

Tice was widely credited with getting the most out of an undermanned line the past two years and still figures to play a big role with that unit.

Holt spent the past three years on Tampa Bay's staff, serving as the assistant offensive line coach last season and as an offensive assistant in 2010. He joined the Buccaneers as a coaching intern in 2009. He also coached for 14 years on the college level.

COLTS PROMOTE TELESCO TO VP OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS: The Colts have promoted Tom Telesco to vice president of football operations.

Telesco has spent the past six seasons as Indy's director of player personnel. He's one of the few holdovers Indianapolis is keeping around in a major housecleaning project that has already claimed the jobs of vice chairman Bill Polian, general manager Chris Polian, coach Jim Caldwell and most of Caldwell's staff.

Telesco joined the Colts in 1998 as a scout. He climbed the ranks and after the 2005 season was named director of player personnel.

Telesco, a John Carroll University alumni, began his career as a scouting assistant with Carolina in 1995 and was a summer intern in Buffalo from 1991-94.

SANDUSKY ARGUES FOR LOCAL JURORS, SUGGESTS DELAY: Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky wants jurors in his child sex abuse trial to be chosen from the community where he lives.

Attorney Joe Amendola filed court documents Wednesday opposing a request by the state attorney general's office to bring in out-of-county jurors.

Amendola says publicity about Sandusky's case has been so pervasive that jurors from other counties will also have been saturated with news coverage. The filings also suggested that a trial delay might be the best way to address the case's intense publicity.

Prosecutors said Wednesday that selecting jurors from the State College area would put them in "an extremely difficult if not impossible position."

Sandusky is accused of abusing 10 boys over 15 years. He denies the allegations.
