COLTS EXPECTED TO NAME COACH NEXT WEEK: Colts owner Jim Irsay says the Indianapolis team expects to decide on a new head coach next week.

Irsay made the announcement on his Twitter account Saturday.

Irsay's tweet read: "The #1 pick debate will rage on,what a great year to have it..the HC search is wide ranging n thorough, decision by mid 2 late next week."

The Colts fired coach Jim Caldwell on Tuesday after three seasons. The team went to the Super Bowl during Caldwell's first year, but finished a dismal 2-14 this season.

WEATHER SHORTENS HUMANA THIRD ROUND: When the wind knocked a big scoreboard into a lake and ripped a few trees out of the ground Saturday, Mark Wilson realized he really didn't mind if he couldn't finish his third round at the Humana Challenge.

Wilson and his fellow pros were more than happy to wait out the windstorm and just come back today, when Wilson will attempt to maintain his momentum for what might be a marathon finish to the erstwhile Bob Hope Classic.

Wilson held a three-stroke lead over Ben Crane at 21 under when play was suspended play midway through the third round.

WILLIAMS CRUISES INTO FOURTH ROUND: Just before she walked on court, Greta Arn said she was looking forward to the "privilege" of playing her first match against Serena Williams. Some privilege.

The 13-time Grand Slam champion overpowered Arn 6-1, 6-1 in 59 minutes on Saturday for her 17th straight win at the Australian Open.

The mismatch was so great that the crowd was muted, rousing themselves only when Arn won her two games and when Williams completed her third-round victory.

Vania King's loss to Ana Ivanovic left Williams as the only American player left in either singles draw.

WEST WINS 87TH SHRINE GAME: Louisiana Tech's Lennon Creer scored on a 9-yard run with 47 seconds remaining, giving the West a 24-17 victory Saturday in the 87th East-West Shrine all-star game.

Quarterbacks Chandler Harnish of Northern Illinois and Tyler Hansen of Colorado had short TD runs for the West, which rallied from an early 10-0 deficit at Tropicana Field.

Men's basketball

PURDUE CALUMET SUFFERS ROAD LOSS: Purdue Calumet, depleted by injuries, suffered a 104-66 loss to No. 21 St. Xavier. Trent Tucker led the Peregrines with 24 points. Drew Ridlen added 16.

SOUTH SUBURBAN WINS AGAIN: DeAndre McCamey and Bryce Walker had 14 points each to lead NJCAA No. 2 South Suburban College to a 67-52 win over Kishawukee Community College on Saturday afternoon.

Kadeem Thornton had 13 points for the Bulldogs (20-1). Michael Harris (E.C. Central) added nine points.

Women's basketball

PURDUE CALUMET'S WIN STREAK SNAPPED: Purdue Calumet's four-game winning streak came to a halt with an 80-59 loss to No. 11 St. Xavier.

Kami Graber had a team-high 18 points plus seven rebounds and four steals for the Peregrines (16-8). Lindsey Whitcomb (Washington Township) added 10 rebounds. PUC had one of its worst offensive outings of the year, shooting just 25 percent from the field with 12 percent shooting from beyond the 3-point arc.

Women's bowling

VU PLACES 7TH AT BIG RED INVITATIONAL: Top-ranked Valparaiso University finished seventh at the Big Red Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. The Crusaders averaged 193.97 a game, less than three pins per game out of fourth. VU finished the three-day event with an 0-3 mark in Baker play.
