KLEIN SIGNS FOR 4TH SEASON WITH RAILCATS: Adam Klein will return to the RailCats, giving the team their patient and pesky leadoff hitter for a fourth season.
An outfielder, Klein is already one of the most accomplished RailCats, ranking first in franchise history in career on-base percentage (.404), second in batting average (.294), second in stolen bases (76) and third in walks (206).
Klein added to his legacy in 2012 by setting the single-season team record for walks with 82, smashing his own mark of 71 the previous year.
Men's basketball
VU'S BROEKHOFF NAMED LOU HENSON AWARD FINALIST: Valparaiso senior forward Ryan Broekhoff was named as one of 25 finalists for the Lou Henson Award, which honors the top mid-major player in college basketball. Fans can participate in the fan vote, which accounts for one-third of the final vote, by visiting www.VoteLouHenson.com.
Broekhoff is up for the honor in the midst of a stellar senior season, which includes having received the Lou Henson Award mid-season award. He currently ranks among the league's top-10 in six different categories, including third in scoring (16.0 ppg) and second in rebounding (7.5 rpg). The four-time Horizon League Player of the Week and reigning HL Player of the Year has helped the Crusaders to the brink of a second consecutive league regular season crown. The award will be presented at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet in Atlanta, site of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.
PUC PLAYERS NAMED ALL-CCAC: Purdue University Calumet's Kedric Williams and Roddy Richardson were recognized by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, as the league announced its 2012-13 all-conference teams on Saturday. Williams was named Second Team All-CCAC, while Richardson garnered Honorable Mention All-CCAC accolades.
Williams was named to the all-conference team for the second-straight year, after posting a team-best 12.2 points per game as a senior. Richardson, who received First Team All-CCAC honors at Calumet St. Joseph a year ago, averaged 9.8 points per game with 22 starts in his first season with the Peregrines.
Women's basketball
FOUR PEREGRINES ON CCAC TEAM: Four players from the Purdue University Calumet women's basketball squad were selected to the all-conference team, as the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference released its postseason awards on Monday. Alex Starr earned First Team All-CCAC honors, while Kami Graber garnered Second Team All-CCAC accolades. Amanda Gaskin and Brooklyn Short were named Honorable Mention All-CCAC.
Purdue Calumet claimed its second-straight 20-win season, finishing 21-9 on its way to its first national ranking since joining the NAIA Div. II. The Peregrines must wait until Wednesday to learn their postseason fate, when the NAIA selection committee announces the national tournament bracket at 7 p.m.
Boys basketball
TICKETS ON SALE FOR WHEELER SECTIONAL: Wheeler High School will sell tickets for this week's Class 2A sectional from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Season tickets are $10. Games are scheduled for today, Friday and Saturday.
WEST SIDE SECTIONAL TICKETS ON SALE AT MUNSTER: The Munster athletic department will sell season tickets to the West Side Sectional games from 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. today. Tickets are $10 each, which grants admission to all games of the sectional.

Purdue University Calumet men’s soccer coach James Drzewiecki landed the third commitment of his 2013 recruiting class, as Michael Harris of Evans, Ga., agreed to continue his career with the Peregrines. Harris joins forward Willie Goliday II of Greenville, Miss. and midfielder Nestor Hernandez of Colorado Springs in the 2013 class. ... Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett argued in a court document filed late Monday that the NCAA has been trying to use his antitrust lawsuit against it over the Penn State penalties in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal to combat what he describes as a groundswell of public criticism. Corbett said the judge should not grant the NCAA's request to dismiss the case, saying college sports' governing body made a factual error when it said the penalties were voted on by the university's trustees.
