PISTONS END 18-GAME LOSING STREAK TO BULLS: Brandon Knight scored 20 points Sunday night to help the Detroit Pistons snap an 18-game losing streak against the Bulls with a 99-85 victory.
The Bulls led by as many as 11 points in the first quarter but Detroit gradually caught up and took the lead in the second after starting the period on a 12-4 run.
Carlos Boozer had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the postseason-bound Bulls, who are fighting to secure the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference.
SANTOS SCORES TWICE TO GIVE FIRE FIRST WIN: Maicon Santos scored twice and Daniel Paladini had a goal and two assists to lead the Fire to a 3-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Sunday.
Santos scored his first goal in the 83rd minute to break a 1-1 tie, rolling a 15-yard right-footed shot from the left side after taking a feed from Paladini and running for about 40 yards. He faked defender Jamison Olave to the turf and booted the ball past Luis Robles.
It was the first win of the season for Chicago (1-3-1), which had been held to one goal in its first four matches, totaling 360 minutes plus stoppage time.
CRUSADERS FALL IN 1-RUN GAME: Valpo stranded seven runners in the last three innings of Sunday's 4-3 loss to UIC as the Crusaders dropped their ninth one-run loss of the season.
Down 2-0, Valpo scored one run in the fourth inning with three consecutive singles. The Crusaders added another two runs in the eighth, though also loaded the bases in the seventh inning with two outs.
VALPO FALLS IN LATE-INNING LOYOLA RALLY: The Valparaiso softball team carried a 2-1 lead into the fifth inning of Sunday’s Horizon League series finale at Loyola, but five unanswered runs sent the Crusaders to a 6-2 defeat.
Freshman Kaitlyn Ranieri, a Lake Central grad, gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning, and sophomore Lindsey Norway hit a home run in the second.
CRUSADERS WIN BRADLEY INVITE: The Valparaiso men’s golf team posted a team score of three-over par 291 in the final round to hold off host Bradley and win the Bradley Invitational on Sunday at WeaverRidge Golf Course in Peoria, Ill.
The Crusaders finished with a three-round total of 894 to best the Braves by two strokes and claim their second tournament title of the 2012-13 season.
Senior Andy Webb matched the low round of the day with a four-under 68 to finish tied for first individually (221) with Bradley’s Andrew Weisenborn. A birdie on the second playoff hole gave Weisenborn medalist honors.

After knocking off UIC for the first time since the Flames joined the Horizon League, Detroit continued its winning ways Sunday against Valpo at the Courts of Northwest Indiana. The Crusaders dropped the morning match 7-0 to the Titans. ... Sophomore Charles Sawyer (Hanover Central) shot a career-best, two-day total of 151 to place 16th and lead the Purdue Calumet men's golf team to an 11th-place finish over the weekend at the Ashford Spring Invitational in Riverside, Iowa. Sawyer set the program's 18-hole record with a 2-under-par 70 on the first day of action. The Peregrines fired a 647 for the tourney. Bellevue won the team title. ... Valparaiso sophomore Kelley Freeman (Chesterton) cleared a season-best 11 feet, 1 3/4 inches to tie for fourth at the Duke Invitational on Saturday. At the Chicagoland Championships in Romeoville, Ill., Valparaiso sophomore Kelly Wosick placed second in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 56.07 seconds. Valpo freshman Sarah Peters took second in the pole vault (10-6). ... Valpo senior Wally Bradford finished 11th in his heat of the 800-meter run, posting a season-best time of 1:58.73 at the Duke Invitational. In the Chicagoland Championships, freshman Barrett Rehm placed fourth in the pole vault (13-3 1/2).
