PORTAGE — A truck driver was taken to a Gary trauma center after a crash Tuesday afternoon involving two semis on the Indiana Toll Road, an official said.

The Portage Fire Department was dispatched about 2 p.m. for the crash on Interstate 80/90, between the Portage and Chesterton exits.

The Fire Department extricated one semi driver, who was taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary, Assistant Fire Chief Dan Kodicek said.

No other injuries were reported, he said.

An Indiana State Police spokesman said further details about the crash may be released later.

The cause of the crash remained unclear. However, photos released by the Fire Department showed heavy snow falling at the crash scene. Lake-effect snow Tuesday affected travel for much of the day.

Some of the highest new snow totals for Tuesday were in Portage, where up to 8 inches was recorded.
