Margaret V. Basich (nee Jajchik) of Hammond, IN, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2001. She is survived by her daughter: Corinne (Lynn) Powell; four grandchildren: Tim (Carri) Kuzos, Laura (William) James, Cheryl (Mark) Radencic and Brian (Stacey) Kuzos; seven great-grandchildren: Kelly James, William James, Ashley James, Jim Hartsock, Cory James, Valerie Ladendorf and Alex Ladendorf; one great-great-granddaughter: Holly Mendlar; three sisters: Anna Frenchik, Marie Chirby and Kay (Ernest) Kiekenapp and two brothers: Frank Jajchik and Steve (Madeline) Jajchik. Preceded in death by husband, John Basich.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 8, 2001, 9:30 a.m. at the Anthony & Dziadowicz Funeral Home, 9445 Calumet Ave. (at 45th St.) Munster, 10:00 A.M. Mass at St. John Bosco Church, Hammond, with Rev. Richard Orlinski officiating. Burial: St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Visitation Wednesday, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Mrs. Basich was a member of St. John Bosco Church and the Catholic Order of Forresters.

Edith Besse

Crown Point

Edith Besse (nee Franz), age 88, of Crown Point, IN, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at her home. Survived by two sons: John W. (Sandra) Besse of Crown Point and Mark (Patty) Besse of Valparaiso; one sister, Margie Breuckman of Crown Point; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Warner, sister, Wilhelmina Donley, and brothers, Ambrose Franz and Lawrence "Hap" Franz.

Mrs. Besse was a former member of St. Anthony Auxiliary, the Crown Point American Legion Post #20 Auxiliary and Eagle Auxiliary Post #2659.

Teddy "Ted" Junior Bolen

Teddy "Ted" Junior Bolen, age 67, of Highland, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2001. Survived by his wife, Gloria (nee King), of 43 years; one daughter, Sheri (Brian) Purnick of Valparaiso; one son, Guy (Anna) Bolen of Denver, CO; three grandchildren: Jeremy, Matthew and Alisha; one brother, Jim Bolen of Pekin, IL; and one sister, Pat McCay of Hammond, IN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2001 at the Kuiper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rob Crytzer officiating. Cremation to follow service. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland, Indiana.

Mr. Bolen was employed at many Ford Dealerships and spent his last four years of retirement working at Bob's Lawnmower in Munster. Ted was a dog lover and will be missed by Kizzie and Midgee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Norma L. Brock (nee Long) age 78, of Hebron, formerly of Jeffersonville, IN passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at St. Anthony Nursing Home. Survived by: one daughter, Rebecca (James) Wolverton of Hebron; one son, Samuel (Susan) Brock of Stone Bank, WI, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two sisters; Myra Ackerman of Jeffersonville, IN, and Mabel Brock of Hayward, CA. Preceded in death by husband, Delmar D. Brock and son, Joe D. Brock.

Funeral service will be Friday, November 9, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the Geisen Funeral Home. Funeral services will conclude at the funeral home with cremation to follow. Friends may call at the Geisen Funeral Home, 109 N. East Street, Crown Point, Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Brock was a member of the New Hope Church of the Nazarene. Edward Brown, III, "Brother" age 44, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2001 He was a a lifetime Gary resident. a former Union representative and a member of the Aware Caucaus. He was employed at Bethelem Steel and he was a graduate of Westside High School of 1975. He was a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. He is survived by his wife, Madie Arlene Brown of Princeton, IN. Four children, Devon, Sen, Jaron and Mia Brown, all of Princeton, IN, two sisters, Nancy Loyd of Gary, IN and Pamela Brown of Indianapolis, IN , four brothers, Kevin, (Darlene) Brown of Merrillville, Kenny Brown of Gary, Dennis (Oneida) Goubeau of Merrillville, Carl Brown of Minneapolis, MN four aunts and two uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 9, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Temple Cogic 3711 Pennsylvina Avenue, East Chiago, IN with Elder William Blakely officiating. Beatrice D. Burford

Beatrice D. Burford, age 80, of Gary, IN passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2001 at Methodist Hospital, Northlake. Beatrice was a lifelong resident and was a telephone operator at hotels in Chicago for many years. She is survived by her brother, Norman Burford of Gary, dear friend, Cecil Kokenos of Gary. Preceded in death by her parents, Terence and Nina Burford and brother, John Burford.

Funeral services are Friday, November 9, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev. Larry K. Whitehead officiating. Judith A. "Judi" Cronin (nee Dvorscak) age 60, of Whiting, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at her residence. She is survived by her children, Jennifer Skvorak and William Cronin, grandaugther, Lauren Rose Skvorak and sister, Joan Druskis, all of Whiting; niece, Karen (Steve) Laws of Florida, nephew, Mark (Melinda) Opachan of Indianapolis and many cousins. Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jeremiah Cronin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 10, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235 119th St. Whiting with the Rev. Kevin Miller of the Whiting United Methodist Church officiating. Interment St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Visitation at the funeral home Friday, 2-5 and 7-9 p.m.

Judi Cronin was born on January 2, 1941 in Whiting, IN to Stephen and Amelia (Ciesko) Dvorsak and was a lifelong resident.She was a member of the Whiting United Methodist Church, a graduate of Whiting High School, Class of 1958, the 119th Street Artists and was an employee of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, Chicago. 219-659-4400.

Kenneth C. DeRolf

Kenneth C. DeRolf, age 62, of Munster, Indiana, passed away Monday, November 5, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Rita and three children: Mark (Lynne) DeRolf, Pam (Andrew) Smith and Amy (Marc) Velasquez; also survived by three grandchildren: Matthew and Patrick DeRolf and Ian Smith.

Family will receive friends and relatives at the Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN, on Saturday, November 10th from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M. Entombment will be private.

Ken was a 1957 graduate of Hammond Tech High School where he was an outstanding athlete in football and baseball. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Ken was a retiree of Lever Bros. in Hammond, after 32 years of service and a member of the Lever Bros. 25-Year Club. Ken was actively involved with Munster youth baseball from 1970 to 1977 and American Legion Baseball from 1976 to 1982. He was a diehard Cub fan and an avid Bear fan. Ken will be dearly missed by his loving family, friends and his faithful dog Gracie.

Edward A. Dixon, age 72, of Munster, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2001. Devoted husband of Catherine T. (nee Cleary) Dixon, loving son of the late Frank and Marie (nee Ward) Dixon, beloved father of Frances (Barry) Bridgeford, Mary (Philip Milsk) Dixon, Joseph, Malachy (Jean) and Robert (Kimberley), dear brother of Francis (Marilyn) Dixon, cherished grandfather of Mary, David, James and Robert Dixon, Andrew and Steven Milsk, best of brothers-in-law to all the Clearys, fond uncle of many nieces and nephews, loving cousin to the Ward, Dixon and Hertel families, loyal friend to many.

Gale Doffin, age 56, of Crown Point, IN, passed away Monday, November 5, 2001 at St. Anthony Medical Center as a result of a motorcycle accident. Survived by two sons: Nicholas and Jeremiah Doffin of Cedar Lake; parents: Alfred and Rita Doffin of Crown Point; one brother, Lee (Nancy) Doffin of Highland; two nephews: Greg (Dana) and Anthony Doffin. Special friend, Kathy. Preceded in death by brother, Duane.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy, one son, Anthony, (Toni Jean) Gargas of Albuquerque, NM, one daughter, Marlene (Randy) Stewart of Hot Springs, AK, two grandchildren, Christopher Gargas of Albuquerque and Grant Ginder Stewart, AK. one brother, Matt(Eleanor) Jabowski of Gary, sisters in law, Vicky Gargas, Loretta Gargas and Marie Koda, nephew, Gene Jepowski.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 10, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. from Prusiecki Funeral Home 3831 Main Street, East Chicago. Stephen Horvath of Whiting, passed away Monday, November 5, 2001. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Victoria (nee Murzyn); brother, Albert (late Frances) Horvath of Calumet City, IL; sister, Margaret (late Joseph) Latiak of Hammond; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Julia Horvath and by his brother, Andrew (late Cora) Horvath.

Mr. Kosich was the retired owner of K & M Realty. He was a member of Lansing Country Club and S.N.P.J. and was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War.
