Michael W. Lowe, Sr. "Mikey", age 54, of Portage, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2002, at home. He was a 29 year employee of Bethlehem Steel Five Stand Mill. A two tour veteran of the Vietnam War. Norene Luketic, age 59 of Munster, formerly of East Chicago, passed away Monday, April 8, 2002. She is survived by her sister, Fay (late Victor) Finke of Munster; two brothers, Michael (Barbara) Luketic of Crown Point and Ronald (Patricia) Luketic of Munster; sister-in-law, Lorraine Luketic; many nieces and nephews; and cousin, Mary Ilijanic. She was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Barbara Luketic, three sisters, Lucille Haiden, Mildred Kotzo and Lorraine Luketic and two brothers, Norbert Luketic and Kenneth Luketic.

Ms. Luketic was a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Illinois Association of School Social Workers. She received her BA degree in Sociology from St. Joseph's College Calumet Campus, her MS degree in Social Studies from Valparaiso University and MS degree in School Services Personnel from Purdue University. She was a pianist, painted, and traveled the world. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of the Calumet Area, in her name.

Survived by three sons: Richard (Mary) Osterman of Schererville, Robert (Helen) Osterman of Hammond and James (Linda) Osterman of Dyer; daughter, Sharon Sam) Crowley of Hammond; daughter-in-law Evelyn Osterman of Whiting; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband, Clarence, two sons, Clarence, Jr. and Gerald and grandson, Richard.

Dorothy L. "Dottie" Sims, age 74, of Portage, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2002. Dottie was an area resident since 1953. Dottie was born January 27, 1928 in Greenville, Kentucky to the late Lester E. and Mary M. Pendley. She is a member of the New Hope Church of God in South Haven. Dottie was an avid bowler at Camelot Lanes and a member of the Lake Suburban Womens Bowling Association. Dottie is preceded in death by her husband, Billie J. Sims, daughter, Mary Anna Redman, one sister, Nancy Hankins and one brother, John Pendley. Frank Trzeciak, age 77, of Hegewisch, IL, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2002 at Ingalls Memorial Hospital. Survived by his children: Stanley (Donna) Trzeciak of Dyer, Christine Pearson of Chicago and Joseph Trzeciak of Hegewisch; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Stanley and John Trzeciak, both of Poland, and numerous nieces and nephews of Poland.

Our dear and loving mother passed away on April 7, 2002 to be with our Lord in heaven. With her compassion, kindness, soft loving ways and bright optimism, Mom will be greatly missed by so many family and friends who had their hearts and lives blessed by her very presence. We mourn our earthly loss, but rejoice in her new body in Christ and heavenly home.
Margaret was born January 23, 1914 in Rochester, PA, of parents, Albert Sinkovitz and Golda Orock. Margaret was the first born of five children with surviving sister, Helen Ruth Jaros, living in Stanford, FL, with her son, Charles. Margaret married Vaughn Paul Adams (1912-1986), also from Rochester, on September 11, 1933. Their children are Alberta Lee Kontos of Lansing, IL, Vaughn Paul, Jr. (Polly) of Tempe, AZ and Ronald William (Joan) of New Port Richey, FL, with whom Mom resided and received loving care until her departure. Surviving stepchildren include Larry Taylor, Jr. and Gerry Taylor, sons of Larry Taylor, Sr. from the Port Richey area.
Margaret has 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Six of her grandchildren live in the Lansing area; Wanda (Charles) Foster, Meg (Todd) Tempco, Carrie (Michael) Yoniles, Rhonda (Gary) Throw, Michael (Rebecca) Adams and John Eric Adams. Other grandchildren include Vaughn Adams III and Kenton Adams from Tempe, AZ, Tracy (Brent) Davis of Raleigh, NC, Laura (John) Lorance, David Adams of San Francisco, CA and Sherri Ceiga of Doublespring, AL.
Mom was a long time resident of the Port Richey area, retiring there in 1972 with her second husband, Lawrence Elmer Taylor (1915-1985), from Lansing, IL. Larry and Mom married on November 3, 1962, and commenced the still flourishing L&M Jewelry business in Lansing. Not to be idle handed, Mom continued to do necklace restringing work for jewelry business in the Port Richey area until her calling home. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Springhill, Florida.
Mom was unceasingly thoughtful, caring, smiling, and viewed life from the most positive light. She overcame life's hurdles with uplifting determinism and hard work. Her most precious possessions were not her things, but rather the people and their treasured memories together.

Esther F. Nielsen
Esther F. Nielsen, age 84, of Jackson Township (Valparaiso), passed away Saturday, April 6, 2002 at home. She was born June 28, 1917 in Shell Lake, WI, the daughter of Alfred and Anna (Garbe) Schubert, graduated from Shell Lake High School and had owned and operated Nielsen's Carry Out in Valparaiso from 1959 to 1976. She was a 70 year member of Valparaiso First Church of the Nazarene. On June 30, 1940 in Shell Lake she married Hans L. Nielsen who preceded her in death in 1976. Survivors include their five children, Robert Nielsen of Beverly Shores, Donald (Pat) Nielsen of Valparaiso, Christine (Ray) Zinsli of Lafayette, Richard (Janice) Nielsen of Houston, TX and Trish (Tony) Ficocello of Coon Rapids, MN; one brother, Eugene Schubert of Valparaiso; one sister, Elaine Krantz of Spooner, WI; 14 granchildren; one foster granddaughter and 17 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Peter Hans Nielsen in 1971.

Benedict John Yankauskas, Jr.
Benedict John Yankauskas, Jr, age 74, of Hebron, was called peacefully to his eternal reward, in the presence of family on April 6, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Porter Memorial Hospital, with complications from pneumonia. Ben was born January 28, 1928 in Cicero, IL, the son of Benedict and Anna (Augustauskas) Yankauskas. He was a devoted husband of 42 years and a loving father of 14 children, 27 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a lifelong resident of Hebron and graduated from Hebron High School. He enjoyed a life-long commitment to farming and agriculture. He was a member of St. Helen's Catholic Church in Hebron, past member of the St. Helen's Holy Name Society, member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and The Independent Order of Foresters. He retired from the Porter County Highway Department in 1995. Ben also served 40 years as a 4-H Club Leader on Boone Township. On August 16, 1952, he was married in Hessville to Virginia M. Michal, who preceded him in death on June 12, 1994. He cherished and raised his family with a foundation of a strong faith and Sunday Family Rosary, instilling love and respect for others, and guided them with a firm hand and a soft heart. Among his favorite past times, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, watching "Bonanza", going out for crab legs and eating ice cream. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched.
