Jesus Guerrero Llanes "Jesse", age 75, late of Calumet City, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2001. Cherished husband of Josephine Guerrero (nee Barragan), devoted step-father of Anita (late Emil) Castellano, Laura (late Carlos) Ceja, late Issac Barragan, late Lucy (Frank) Nava, Aurella (Pablo) Valdez, Inez Sylvano, Josephine (Roque) Madujano, dearest grandfather of 29. Mr. Llanes was a resident of River Oaks Adult Community Estates.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 14, 2001 at 8:45 a.m. from Ruzich Funeral Home, 9725 S. Arline L. Lusk (nee Frigo)


Arline L. Lusk, age 63, of Munster, IN passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Harold; son, Harold (Suzanne) Lusk III; daughter, Laura (Ronald) Tyler; son, Timothy (Sun Hee) Lusk; grandchildren, Erin, Colleen and Timothy; brother, Louis (Joan) Frigo; many cousins, nieces and nephews;. Preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara and Laura Frigo.

Visitation will be on Friday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral service will be Saturday, December 15, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. from the Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Avenue,Munster, IN with a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Thomas More Church. Interment, St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL. Mrs. Lusk was a member of St. Thomas More Church, member and past President of the Guild of St. Joseph's Home For Boys, former member of the Munster Swim Club; first woman President of the Munster Swim Club, former employee of Illinois Insurance Management and Vehicle Specialties, Inc. Donations in her memory would be appreciated to the St. Joseph's Home for Boys.

Rose Nudi (nee Klobuchar)


Rose Nudi (nee Klobuchar) age 81, of Lynwood, IL passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2001. She is survived by two sons; Don A. (Barbara) and Gus Nudi, Jr., daughter; Kathlyn Nudi, two grandchildren; Donneco and Michael, sister; Josephine (late Conrad) Boniecki, dear and faithful friend; Eileen Szutka. She was preceded in death by her brother, John D. Klobuchar.

Visitation, Thursday December 13 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral service will be Friday, December 14 at 9:15 a.m. from the Rosemoor Funeral Home, 17943 Torrence Avenue, Lansing, IL to St. James Church, Sauk Village, IL. Mass 10:00 a.m. Interment, Assumption Cemetery.

Marguerite B. McGill, age 86, of Valparaiso passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at Whispering Pines, Valparaiso. Born June 12, 1915, daughter of the late Arthur and Bessie Schau. Lifetime resident of Valparaiso member of the First Presbyterian Church, 20 year former employee of Porter Memorial Hospital Coffee Shop, member of the Porter County Antique Club and 35 year volunteer with the Presbyterian Resale Shop. Survived by three sons, James A. (Adrienne) McGill of Jupiter, FL, Richard H. McGill and Robert S. (Alicia) McGill, of Valparaiso, two daughters, Patricia (Charles) Durand, Rice Lake, WI, Barbara G. Prescott, Phoenix, AZ, 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grand children. Preceded in death by her husband, Mathew McGill and brothers, Chris, George, Lane, and Clyde Schau and one sister, Blanche Spratley.

Freda E. Ridge


Freda E. Ridge, (nee Bastin) age 97, of Hammond, IN passed away December 11, 2001. She is survived by daughter in law, Loretta Ridge of New Lenox, IL, grandchildren, Anita, Brian, and Thomas Ridge, Marla Coch and Laura McDermott, 12 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Clyde Ridge and son, Robert Ridge both in 1980. Also two brothers, five sisters and one grandchild.

Funeral service will be held Friday, at 9:30 a.m. at Burns Kish Funeral Home 5840 Hohman Avenue, with visitation one hour prior. 10:00 am. Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church in Hammond with Father Roy Beeching officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond. Mrs. Ridge was a resident of Hammond, a member of St. Joseph Church, St. Joseph Rosary Society, a graduate nurse of St. Margaret Hospital School of Nursing. She was an honorary member of St. Margaret Nurses Alumni Association. She was a former member of the Gary Diocese Council of Catholic Nurses and had been a volunteer for the St. Joseph Soup Kitchen.

Norma A. Schrock


Norma A. Schrock, age 76, of Hessville, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at St. Catherine's Hospital of East Chicago. She is survived by four sons, Terry (Edie) Schrock of Union, Michigan, Pastor Ron (Sally) Schrock of Seward, Alaska, Barry (Debbie) Schrock of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Pastor C. Randy (Karen) Schrock of LaCrosse, IN, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Homer, sister, LaVonne Sassaman and brother, Raymond Spencer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. from the Hessville Baptist Church with her sons Pastor Ron Schrock and Pastor Randy Schrock officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. EST in Constantine Cemetery, Constantine, MI. Friends are invited to call at the Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hessville on Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Mrs. Schrock was a resident of the Calumet Area for 35 years, she was a member of the Hessville Baptist Church and she retired in 1994 from Packaging Corporation of American of Griffith after 26 years as a press tender.

Jean Ann Shaffer "Jeanie" 59, of Hebron, passed away Tuesday, December 11,2001, at VNA Mary Bartz Hospice. She was born April19,1942, in Charleston, WV and had been an area resident since 1972 coming from Elkview, WV. She was a graduate of Clendenin High School in WV and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Jeanie had been a radio dispatcher and secretary with the Hebron Police Department for over 9 years, later becoming a billing clerk with the Hebron Water Department, retiring in February of 1999. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren and granddog, Ginger. On October 25,1961, in Cumberland, MD she married William E. Shaffer, who survives along with two sons, Scott (April) Shaffer and their dog, Ginger, of Hebron and Mark (Mandy) Shaffer and their children, Isaac and Carson of Valparaiso; her mother,Lorene Ashworth of Dyer; two sisters, Linda (John) Hunt of Dyer, Vicky Stevenson of Medaryville and a brother, Ronnie Ashworth of Cosby, IN and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso, Pastor David Buche officiating with burial at Angelcrest Cemetery. Visitation, Friday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mary T. Staples, (nee Graska) age 71, of Griffith, IN, formerly of Hammond passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at her home. She is survived by seven loving sons, Eugene (Anita) Graska, Calumet City, Thomas (Leslie) Graska, Marietta, GA, Brian (Carol) Graska, Country Club Hills, Steve (Cathy) Graska, Ball Ground, GA, Jeffrey (Lydia) Graska, Highland, IN, Shawn (Vicki) Graska, Rockwall, TX, and Bruce (Erika) Lombard, IL, and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 5840 Hohman Avenue, Hammond, IN. Friends may call at the funeral home 3-7 p.m. She was a retired employee of Bankers Life & Casualty Company. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.

Josephine Mildred Tarrant, 84, of Greenwood, Indiana passed away Tuesday, December 11,2001. She was born April 28,1917, and was married to Joe Tarrant on August 7,1937. He preceded her in death on December 22,1990. She was a member of the Lake Station Community Presbyterian Church, a member of the Hobart Eastern Star Lodge #314 and a member of the Lake Station Lions Auxiliary. She is survived by her son Joel "Butch" Tarrant of Portage; her daughter, Bobbi (Ron) Rosser of Franklin, IN; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister, Lorraine Hillan of Hobart; brothers, Russell of Colorado Springs, CO and Jesse of Yucaipa, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Bud.

Elma L. Tracy, 92, of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001. She was born July 7, 1909 in Aliva, WI and came to the area in 1923. She had been employed by Gary Screw and Bolt and was a Gold Star Mother. She is survived by two sons, Donald (Wanda) Tracy of Chesterton and Richard (Marcia) Tracy of Portage; sister, Bonnie Hines of Osela, GA; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Edward M. Tracy, who was killed at Iwo Jima, in WWII; brothers, Harry, Ira, Tom, John and Harold Perry and sisters, Martha Riphenburg, Augusta Kubochek and Katherine Dignan.

Richard Urban, 81, of Highland, IN passed away Monday, December 10, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Arlene (nee Michl); daughters, Debra (Pat) Cohn of Harrisburg, PA and Susan Blisard of Columbiana, OH; son, Richard Urban of Columbus, OH.

Mr. Urban was retired from Youngstown Steel with over 30 years of service and was an amateur artist. Memorial contributions to the American Kidney Foundation in his memory would be appreciated.

Charles A. Weber


Charles A. Weber, age 91, of Valparaiso, passed away Monday, December 10, 2001 at Whispering Pines. He was born June 17, 1910 in Switzerland, the son of Fritz and Bertha Weber. He was a boilermaker with Local #374 in Hammond and a member of the South Haven Church of the Nazarene. His wife, S. Bernice Butler Weber preceded him in death. Surviving is a son, Charles D. Weber, a daughter, Pauline Cobler, three sisters, Cercil Cook, Margatrete Delodder and Bertha Verhaeghe, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. His parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 14, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Bartholomew Funeral Home, Rev. O'Neal Stover officiating. Burial will be in McCool Cemetery, Portage. Visitation will be Friday, December 14, 2001, 10 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m.

Jack B. Wonnell, 83, of Munster, IN passed away Tuesday, December 11,2001. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lucille (nee Christie); sons, Christopher (Eleanor Blais) Wonnell of San Diego, CA and Dirk (Susan Brokaw) Wonnell of Cincinnati, OH; four grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Eva) Wonnell of Linwood, NJ; Preceded in death by his parents, May and Sydney Wonnell, brother,Robert Wonnell.

Mr. Wonnell served with the U.S.Army during World War II; taught at Thornton Fractional High Schools in Lansing and Calumet, City,IL for 31 years. He was a member of the South Suburban Symphonic Band, South Holland Summer Band and in its early years the Northwest Indiana Symphony.

Bobby Dean Wright



Bobby Dean Wright, "Bob", 63, of Portage, passed away December 10, 2001, at VNA Mary Bartz Hospice Center in Valparaiso. Mr. Wright had been a Portage resident for 22 years, previously living in Lake Station, and was a former member of American Legion Post #260. He was a past president and manager with the Portage Little League. He retired from U.S. Steel in1985 and was currently employed by Hadady Machining Co. as a salesman. He was preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Faye (nee Beach) Wright; brother, Gilbert Wright; sisters, Irma Jean Wright and Lorraine Pounds. Survivors: are wife, Martha, of Portage; son, Bobby Dean Wright of Georgia; three daughters, Dawn (Mark) Carlo of Wheatfield, Elizabeth (John) Walker of Portage and Debra (Kurt) Swindle of Valparaiso; sisters, Kathryn (Glen) Holbrook of Monticello and Phyllis Ann Fricke of Crown Point.

Albert was born in Whiting, IN on March 25, 1931 to Frank and Anna (Kalanka) Yager and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of the Slovak Gymnastic Sokol, Lodge 269, was a social member of the Hammond Mohawks and a retiree of Ispat-Inland Steel Company, East Chicago with over 30 years of service. 219-659-4400.
