Velma Jean Marcum

Velma Jean Marcum, 53 of Homewood, Illinois, lost her long brave battle with cancer on Friday, August 25, 2000. She entered this world on October 30, 1946, and she leaves it touching countless lives in ways that will not be forgotten. Beloved wife of George, for 35 years, and cherished daughter of Mary Jones (nee Alsman); devoted mother to Terry (Dusty) Marcum of Hendersonville, TN, Todd (Corina) Marcum of Chicago Heights, IL and Tammy Marcum-Niksich of Merrillville, IN. She leaves priceless, loving and cherished memories to 11 grandchildren; Ben, Tess, Michaela, Frank, Stephanie, Nico, Todd George, Eloy, Ashlee, Christopher and Allyson; Surviving brothers and sisters are Russell, Blaine and Mickey Jones and Cheryl Woods; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Velma was a 30 year office manager and friend of Robert B. Smith, DDS, of Richton Park. She was preceded in death by her loving father, Blaine Jones.

Services will be held Monday, August 28, 2000 at 11 a.m. from the LaHayne Funeral Home 5746 Hohman Ave., Hammond, Indiana, with Deacon Tom Kreidler officiating. Flo Sinclair Paul (nee Broomhead), 79, of Lansing, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2000. Beloved daughter of the late Frank (Myrtle Anderson) Broomhead; Loving mother of Jean (James) Wall and Douglas (Pamela) Paul; Dear sister of Russell (late Dorothy) Broomhead, the late Del (Bernice) Bromhead, Francis "Bud" (Shirley) Broomhead, Carl Alden and the late Jack (Janice) Broomhead. Fond sister-in-law of Kenneth (Sagami) Paul. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three grand-dogs, Monty, Murphy and Shannon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene F. Paul.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 28, 2000 at 11 a.m. from the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois. Burial at Oak Glen Cemetery, Lansing, IL. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Andrew D. Perrin, 4, of Highland, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2000. Survived by parents, Tony and Cathy Perrin of Highland; two brothers, Tony D and Alex; grandparents, Virginia Speck of Cedar Lake, Dan and Jeanne Potosky of Griffith; also, many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 28, 2000, directly at St. James Church in Highland, Indiana, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Father Francis Lazar officiating. Burial, Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland, Indiana.

Preceded in death by father, Eugene Pressler, son, Derek Douglas Pressler and nephew, Jonathan Argus.

He is survived by his daughter, Alyssa Reid, and his fiancee, Gayle Schmucker, both of New Haven, IN; father, Robert Reid of Gary; two brothers, James (Jenmnifer) Short of New Haven, IN and Jeff Short of Gary, IN; two sisters, Margaret (Ron) Blankenship of Hammond and Amy Reid of North Carolina; very special grandmother, Maureen Reid of North Carolina and grandmother Ruth Short of Gary; also, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Preceded in death by his mother, Mary Reid, and grandparents, Gilbert Reid, and George and Anna DeBold.

George A. White passed away at 11:10 a.m. on July 20, 2000 in Ocala, Florida. Survived by daughter, Beverly (Anthony) Maggi of Summerfield, FL and daughter-in-law, Judith (late Robert) White of Gay, IN, and five grandchildren; Michael Maggi of Highland, IN, Diane (Paul) Steele of Vicksburgh, MS, Toni Lee (John) Spinsanto of Lansing, IL, Scott Robert (Donna) White of Schererville; IN, and Greg (Lynda) White of South Elgin, IL; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Irene Zweig

Irene Zweig (nee Berlin) of Flossmoor, Illinois, formerly of Gary, Indiana, beloved wife of 51 years to Isadore "Izzy" and mother of Michael (of Schererville, Indiana), passed away on Friday, August 25, 2000. She is also survived by her sisters, Minnie Hyman of Norfolk, Virginia and Ruth (Martin) Lee of Newport News, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Rebecca and Harry Berlin, her sisters, Mildred Ochsanhaut and Pauline Hertzberg, and brothers, Philip and Willie.

Irene served with the American Red Cross throughout Europe as World War II was ending and settled with Izzy in Gary. Throughout her life Irene was devoted to her family, Temple Beth-El of Gary and Congregation Beth Israel of Hammond, and was a tireless worker for many charitable organizations including Temple Beth-El Sisterhood, Hadassah, B'nai Brith Women, the National Council of Jewish Women, the Jewish Federation, Inc., and in recent years was an avid supporter of Village Artists of Flossmoor, Illinois.

Visitation will be on Monday, August 28, 2000, 1 p.m., followed at 2 p.m. by the funeral service at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Avenue, Munster, Indiana, with Rabbi Raphael Ostrovsky officiating. Interment to follow at the Temple Beth-El Cemetery, Portage, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hadassah, c/o Frances Nelson, 420 Old Stone Road, Munster, IN 46321, would be greatly appreciated.

Irene's love, enthusiasm and effervescence will be dearly missed by all who were privileged to know her.
