Margaret Cleveland, 76, of 410 E. Adams Ave., Fairfield, IA 52556 died at
her home on Monday, May 24, 1999. A memorial service will be held at Barhydt
Chapel in Fairfield on Tuesday, June 1st at 1 p.m. Mrs.
Cleveland was born November 17, 1922 in Hammond, Indiana, the daughter of
Martin and Cora Schwartz. She married Clyde S. Cleveland, also from Hammond, on
August 3, 1947. She earned her nursing degree from St. Francis School of
Nursing in Peoria, Illinois,
and immediately went to serve overseas as an Army nurse in World War II. She
lived most of her adult life in Munster, Indiana working for the Northwest
Indiana Visiting Nurses Association. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved
to San Diego, California
where they lived for 17 years before their recent move to Fairfield, IA.
Survivors include her husband, one son, Clyde J. Cleveland and one daughter,
Coralee Mallard, both of Fairfield, IA; one sister, Marie Reitz of Munster
Indiana and six grandchildren.

School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Mary L. Lauterbach

to Highland, Indiana, in 1952, and was employed at LTV Steel. He retired in
1986 and moved to Mesa, AZ, shortly thereafter. He is survived by his wife,

Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. She was a resident of Freelandville, IN. Born
March 26, 1911 in Freelandville, she was the daughter of George and Martha
Morford. She had retired in 1966 as a first grade teacher in Hammond. She also
taught in Highland and
Munster with most of her career at Harding Elementary School. She had been the
oldest living member of the Freelandville Christian Church where she was a
former Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of Tri Kappa, the Retired
Teachers Association and Vincennes
Daughters of the American Revolution. She married Thayer Schell who died in
1968. Also deceased are three sisters, Vi Backs, Dorothy Kirchoff and Gwen
Wolf, and one nephew, Bill (Janet) Backs of Pinedale, Wyoming. Surviving are
three nephews and two nieces,
Joe (Judy) Kirchoff of Freelandville, Bob (Bev) Kirchoss of Mobile, Alabama,
Marge (Bob) Dahnke of Lafayette, Martha (Rudy) Smith of Decatur, Michigan and
Tim (Maureen) Wolfe of Highland; great nieces and nephews; great great nieces
and nephews and brother-in-law

Joseph F. Sliwa, 81, late of Hegewisch, IL, passed away Friday, May 28,
1999 at home. Survivors are wife, Johanna;
two daughters, Angie (Harold) Couture and Carol (Frank) Brandys;
brother-in-law, Peter (Margaret) Castellarin and sister-in-law, Josephine
Tierney; nine grandchildren: Steven (Wendy) Couture, Karrieann (Michael)
Kroeger, Jennifer (Paul) Couture, Troy and
Travis Couture, Connie (George) Youpel, Richard (Sherry) Urbanski, Cindy
Urbanski and Frank Brandys, Jr; seven great-grandchildren, Linnea and Logan
Couture, Alexander, Jeremy, Halie and Joey Urbanski and Georgie Youpal; many
nieces and nephews. Preceded
in death by a daughter, Mary (Richard) Urbanski and three brothers, Frank
(Isabelle), Stanley (late Irene) and Barney (Ann) Swila.
Services Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at 9 a.m. from Opyt Funeral Home, 13350
Baltimore Ave., Hegewisch, IL, to St. Columba Church
for a 9:30 a.m. Mass. Entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation Monday from
2 to 9 p.m.
Mr. Sliwa was retired from GATX (East Chicago). A WWII Army veteran.

Mary Marie Stowell, 73, of Lake Village, IN, passed
away on Friday, May 28, 1999 at St. Anthony Medical Center. She was born Nov.
20, 1925 to the late tony and Mae Domele. She was married to the late Charles
"Fred" Stowell on March 15, 1947 in Shelby, IN. She is survived by one son,
James Stowell of San Francisco,
CA; one brother, Charles (Marlene) Domele of Lake Village and a host of nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 1, 1999, 10 a.m. at Sheets Funeral
Home, 604 E. Commercial Ave., Lowell, IN 46356, with Pastor
Kenneth Burris officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Village Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m at the funeral home.
Mary was a long time member of the Eastern Star and the Lake Village Grange.

Frances L. Summerlot, 81, of Highland, IN, passed away on Thursday, May 27,
1999. Survived by two daughters, Janice (Frank) Hall of Rensselaer and Marilyn
Satmary of Hammond; son, Donald Smith of Severn, Maryland;
10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Hedwig Gordon of
Chicago and Mary Hays of Cedar Lake.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at 1 p.m. from the
Fagen-Miller Funeral Home, 2828 Highway Ave., Highland, IN, with burial
at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends may call at the
