Charles T. Abbring

DeMotte, IN.

Charles T. Abbring, 88, of DeMotte, IN., passed away at St. Anthony's

Medical Center at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday December 21, 1996. He was born in

Kenner Twp. Jasper, Indiana on August 9, 1908 to the late Thomas and Nellie

Evers Abbring. Married June 17, 1938 in Crown Point, IN. to Alma A Bormann, who

survives. Attended DeMotte High School. Owner and operator of Martin's Gas

Station in DeMotte for 44 years. Lifetime member of American Reformed Church of

DeMotte and Charter member of DeMotte Town Board. Also survived by children,

Mrs. Ruth "Tootie" (William) Yates of Fair Oaks, IN., Chuck (Beverly) Abbring

and David (Paula) Abbring of DeMotte, IN.; seven grandchildren; six great

grandchildren; sisters Mrs. Olive Ooms and Mrs. Dorothy (Sam) Hamstra of

DeMotte, IN. and brother, Thomas (Mildred) Abbring of Wheatfield, IN. Preceded

in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at the Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte, IN. on Sunday,

December 22nd from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral services Monday, December 23, 1996, 11

a.m. from the American Reformed Church in DeMotte with Rev. Frank Shearer

officiating. Interment at Holland Cemetery, DeMotte. Those who wish to

contribute to the American Reformd Church of DeMotte.

Walter H. Dorn

Portage/Crown Point

Walter H. Dorn, 75, of Portage, formerly of Crown Point, passed away at

the VNA Mary Bartz Hospice Center, Valparaiso, on Friday, December 20, 1996.

Retired employee of Bethlehem Steel Corp., and Spot Not Car Wash in Crown

Point; member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Portage and former member of

Trinity Lutheran Church of Crown Point. He was a veteran of World War II and

the Korean Conflict. Member of Lowell VFW Post; S.O.A.R. Chapter #713; former

member of United Steel Workers Local #6787. Survived by wife, Ruth; two sons,

Richard (Annette) Dorn of Schererville; C. Randall "Randy" (Sharon) Dorn of

Richmond, Virginia; six grandchildren; Kelly, Mair, Mack, Denise, Maggie and

David; and cousin, Robert (Linda) Costello of Chicago.

Funeral services Monday, December 23, 1996 at 11 a.m. from the Geisen

Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville, IN. with Rev. Timothy Engel

officiating. Burial at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends

may call Sunday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Geisen Funeral Home,

Merrillville. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the VNA Mary E.

Bartz Hospice Center, Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Calumet Area.

Tony "TK" "KLAJ" Klaja

Hobart

Tony "TK" "KLAJ" Klaja, 18, of Hobart, IN. passed away Saturday, December

21 1996. A lifelong area resident. He was born September 16, 1978 in

Valparaiso, Indiana. Tony was an avid outdoors man. He played Hobart Little

League from age 8 to 15. Was pitcher for the Hobart High School Varsity

Baseball Team, pitched in the Babe Ruth Senior League World Series and also

pitched for the Hammond Chiefs. He is survived by his parents, Jerry and Nancy

Klaja of Hobart; one brother, Bryan Klaja at home; grandparents, Eileen and

Delos Swallow of Portage; aunts and uncles including Linda (Mike) Benka,

Charles (Ethel) Swallow, Thomas Swallow, Judith (Charles) Stempley and Linda

(William) Yarboro; several cousins. Preceded in death by his grandfather, Henry

Klaja.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 27, 1996 at Rees Funeral

Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana. Visitation Thursday from 2 to 5

and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rees Funeral Home Hobart Chapel.

James R. Kocek

DeMotte

James R. Kocek, 73, of DeMotte, IN, passed away at St. Mary's Medical

Center, Hobart, IN. at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 1996. He was born

October 13, 1923 in Chicago, IL. to the late Rudolph and Mildred Klinka Kocek.

A resident of the city since 1972. Mr. Kocek attended Chicago Public Schools.

He married Arlyne M. VanDrent on May 4, 1944 in Chicago, IL., she survives.

Also survived by daughters, Carol A. Corsello of Chicago, IL. and Diane "Dee

Dee" Brown of Calumet City, IL.; brothers, Robert (Delores) Kocek of Lagrange

Park, IL. and William (Verna) Kocek of Foster City, MI.

Mr. Kocek was manager at Howard Industries, East Chicago, IN. for 10

years. He was also at Calumet Construction in management. U.S. Marine veteran.

He was a member of Radio Lodge #1082, Chicago, IL., Sheet Metal Workers Local

#20 and member of DeMotte-KV Rotary Club. Memorials may be made to Disabled

Veterans of America.

Friends may call 2 to 9 p.m. Monday December 23rd at the Jackson Funeral

Service of DeMotte, Indiana. Funeral services Tuesday, December 24, 1996 at

10:30 a.m. from the Jackson Funeral Service, Rev. John Weeks officiating.

Burial will take place in the Cedar Park Cemetery, Chicago, IL. 219-987-5300.

Michael J. Livovich

Valparaiso

Michael J. Livovich, 51, of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, December

21, 1996 at Porter Memorial Hospital. He was born August 27, 1945 in East

Chicago, IN. the son of George and Helen (Kolanowski) Livovich. He graduated

from Hammond Morton High School in 1964 and then Indiana University with a

Business Degree. He was currently employed as Credit Manager for Azcon Corp. in

Chicago. On October 23, 1971 he married Christine Franyi who survives along

with two daughters, Jennifer Livovich and Erika Livovich, both of Valparaiso,

and two sisters, Jeanne (Frank) Martone of Crown Point and Barbara Bilen of

Valparaiso.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 9:15 a.m. prayers at Moeller

Funeral Home, Valparaiso, IN., to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wanatah for 10

a.m. Funeral Mass, Fr. Jerry Schweitzer officiating with cremation to follow.

Visitation Thursday and Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service Friday at

4 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes

Association.

Christine L. O'Connor

Chesterton

Christine L. O'Connor, 92, of Chesterton, IN., passed away Friday,

December 20, 1996 at the Fountain View Terrace Nursing Home in LaPorte,

Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, William O'Connor in 1985.

Survived by two sons, Gene O'Connor Of LaPorte, IN. and Robert (Sandy) O'Connor

of Porter, IN.; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, December 23, 1996 at

1 P.M. from St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chesterton, IN., Rev. John Zemelko

officiating. Burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chesterton, IN. The family will

receive friends on Monday from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the White-Love

Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, Chesterton, Indiana. Memorials may take the

form of either St. Patrick's Building Fund or Spiritual Bouquets.

Mrs. O'Connor was a member of St Patrick's Catholic Church.

Ross J. Pangere, 84, passed away Friday, December 20, 1996. Retired

employee of Pangere Corp.; member of SS. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox

Cathedral and its senior citizens club; member of Painters Union Local #8;

Roosevelt Masonic Lodge #716 F.&A.M.; York Rite, Shriners South Bend Consistory

32nd Degree; Lifetime member of Tall Cedars; Chion Society "Kanaris" and the

Order of the Eastern Star Griffith Chapter #583. He is survived by his wife

Artemis Pangere; one daughter, Irene (George) Nestorovich; two grandsons,

George (Kristi) Nestorovich and Mark (Katie) Nestorovich; one great grandson,

Erik Ross Nestorovich; one brother, Nichols J. Pangere; three nephews, John

(Eileen) Pangere, Ross (Patty) Pangere and Steve (Georgianne) Pangere.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 23, 1996, 11 a.m. at SS.

Constantine & Helen Grek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison, Merrillville, Rev.

John E. Artemas officiating. Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery,

Merrillville. Friends may call on Sunday 2 to 9 p.m. at the Geisen Funeral

Home, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville. A Trisagion Prayer Service will be offered

Sunday at 7 p.m. Mr. Pangere may also be viewed on Monday at the church from 10

a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be made to SS Constantine & Helen

Greek Orthodox Cathedral or the Shriners Childrens Hospital in memory of Mr.

Pangere.

James W. Peterson

Valparaiso

James W. Peterson, 46 of Valparaiso, former of Northbrook, Illinois,

passed away at Porter Memorial Hospital on Friday, December 20, 1996. Survived

by wife, Marcey A. (nee Kornstein) Peterson; two sons, Adam M. and Mark R.

Peterson, both at home; parents, Carl L. and Marian E. Peterson of Niles, IL.;

one sister, Kathleen M. Peterson of Harrisburg, PA.; sister-in-law, Jeri L.

(Henry) Jakob of Chicago; brother-in-law, Jeffrey M. Kornstein of Des Plaines,

IL.; parents-in-law, Bernice and Benge Kornstein of Northbrook, IL.; and

nephew, Matthew H. Jakob.

Celebration of Jim's life will be held Monday, December 23, 1996 at 6 P.M.

at the Burns Funeral Home, (corner of 101st & Broadway), Merrillville/Crown

Point Chapel with Rev. Michael Porter officiating. Friends and relatives may

visit with the family at the Burns Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 6 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jim was a graduate of Maine East High School, Class of 1968. He was a

graduate of the Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois and the

Divers Institute of Technology in Seattle, Washington. He was owner and

president of Chicago Underwater Inc. He was a member of the Soaring Society and

was an avid sailor and snow skier.

Edward V. Tupiak, 76, of Hebron, IN., passed away in Rochester, Minnesota

on Sunday, December 22, 1996.
