Steve J. Arendas, 74, of Whiting, passed away Monday, January 10, 2000, at

St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47

years, Rose (nee Giorgio); three sons, Steve (Sue) Arendas

of Lake Villa, IL, Jim (Annette) Arendas of Lakes of the Four Seasons and Dan

Arendas of Whiting; six grandchildren, Stephen, Melissa, Andrew, Nathan, Angela

and Anthony; sister, Olga (Bill) Mihalo of Munster; and nieces and nephews.

Europe; retiree of the Inland Steel Company, East Chicago, with a service of 30

years, member of Inland Steel 25-Year Club and Management Club, and Sokol

Lodge #269.

Hammond and Highland. He was a member of the Fair Meadow Community Church of

the Nazarene of Munster; member of Gideons International and a volunteer at St.

Margaret Mercy Hospital in Hammond from 1984 to 1996. In lieu of flowers,

Friday, January 7, 2000 in Panama City, Florida. He was the beloved son of the

1960. After her marriage she became a housewife where she kept busy by caring

for her husband and raising

her three children. She loved to sew and crochet in her spare time.

Ruth Lyndell Cooke, 83, of Highland, passed away at her residence on Sunday,

January 9, 2000. She is survived by one daughter, Donna (Gary, Sr.) Immig and

one son, Robert (Jill) Cooke, all of Highland; one sister, Louise (Donald)

Messner of Springfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter

and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert

"Bob" in 1988.

Mrs. Cooke had been a resident of the Calumet area for over 70 years. Mrs.

Cooke's Minstry for over 65 years was that of pianist or organist for the

Tabernacle First Assembly of God of Hammond and later the Hessville Assembly of

God Church. She also met many requests for accompanist at funerals and

weddings. She was sincerely devoted to her music service for her church and

friends. Mrs. Cook was active

in the Senior Citizens Group and WMC's at the Hessville Assembly of God Church

where she had been a member for many years. Memorial contributions can be made

to the Humane Society Calumet Area Building Fund. She was a volunteer at the

Humane Society, Calumet

Joanna "Joan" J. Doepping, 74, of Valparaiso, passed away on Monday,

January 10, 2000 at Porter Memorial Hospital. She was born June 6, 1925 in

Hammond, Indiana, the daughter of Clarence J. and Sylvia (Finch) Wilson. She

was an aide at Porter Memorial Hospital and member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

On January 15, 1943 in Valparaiso, she married Paul John Doepping, Sr., who

preceded her in death July 12, 1999. Surviving are two sons, Paul J. (Barbara)

Doepping, Jr. of Valparaiso

and David (Donna) Doepping of Union Mills, IN; three daughters, Judy (James)

Frum of Westville, IN, Bonnie Greasby of Milwaukee, WI and Wendy (Clyde) Davis

of Lafayette, IN; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. Her parents and a

formerly of Gary, IN, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2000. A 1969 graduate

of Gary West Side High School. Former employee of Lure Hamburger Restaurant,

Gary, former employee of U.S. Steel Co-Sheet and Tin Division, Gary, and former

member of U.S.W.A.-Local 1066, Gary.

Enlisted into military service (U.S. Air Force), April 1, 1972. Occupation,

Aircraft Maintenance Specialist. Retired with 23 years of service,

with the rank of Master Sergeant. Basic Training Lackland Air Force Base, San

Antonio, TX. M/Sgt. Dominguez, during his tour of duty, was assigned to

several Air Force military bases here in the U.S. and Europe. He received

numerous awards for meritorious

service. M/Sgt. Dominguez final assignment was the 16th Aircraft Maintenance

Unit, Hurlburt Field, Florida, as a Production Superintendent on the AC-130H

Specter Gunship. Upon his retirment he and his family settled at Converse,

(near San Antonio) TX.

Eloy

dedicated his life to God, family and his country. He enjoyed life and will be

dearly missed by his family and friends. The family gives thanks to God for the

life of Eloy M. Dominguez and cherish our memories of him.

Helen M. Dranchak, 84, of Portage, left for her Heavenly home on Sunday,

January 9, 2000. Helen was a wonderfully kind woman whose compassion for others

goes unsurpassed. She always retained the little child playfulness quality

which greatly enhanced those who were lucky enough to be called her loved ones.

She will be deeply missed. Although she led a simple, unassuming life, her

impact on her family is far

reaching and never ending. "I'll miss you Mugger".

She is survived by her devoted and loving daughter, Janice H. Karski and her

adoring son-in-law, Jerry Karski of Hobart; She was loved by her granddaughter,

Natalie Hurst and her husband, Kenny Hurst; She

cherished her great-grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn Hurst and Ryan Joseph Hurst.

She has joined her husband, John and granddaughter, Laura Lynn. She is also

survived by brothers-in-law, Alva Voyles and Edward (Katie) Dranchak;

sisters-in-law, Julie Regal, Ann

Gayda and Margaret Porchiran; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces,

great-nephews and devoted niece, Rosemary Layer of Colorado.

passed away

Sunday, January 9, 2000. Survived by five sons: Steve H. Hasara Sr. of Alvin,

TX, Gerald Hasara of Lafayette, Anthony Hasara of Evansville, IN, Dr. Lawrence

(Celeste) Hasara and Thomas (Elaine) Hasara, both of Bradenton, FL; daughter,

Lee Taylor of Oakdale,

CA; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hasara was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. Ryder Council #4047,

the Elks Lodge and the Lion's Club. He was a former member of Holy Trinity

Church, Gary. He was a retired crane operator from

the Merchant Mill, Gary Works, U.S. Steel with 50 years of service.

Friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service, 6360 Boradway,

Merrillville, on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary

7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on

Florence C. Hoffman, 82, of Griffith, passed

away Monday, January 10, 2000. Survived by one daughter, Kathy (Tim) McCoy of

of Lowell; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Bill

(Phyllis) Hilbrich of

Dyer and Earl (Pat) Hilbrich of Monticello, IN; five sisters, Lillian Feder of

Crown Point, Leona Dewes of DeMotte, Jen Earl and Sylvia Keilman of Hammond and

Betty Reiplinger of Minnesota. Preceded in death by husband, Clarence

held on Friday, January 14, 2000 at 9:30 a.m. at the Kuiper Funeral Home

Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10 a.m. at St.

Mary Church with Rev. Theodore Mens and Rev. Lee Percel officiating. Burial at

Chapel Lawn Cemetery,

Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday from

3 to 8 p.m. at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of

Ridge Road), Highland, Indiana.

Mrs. Hoffman was a member of St. Mary Church of Griffith and was

secretary of the Wednesday morning bowling league. Flo was in charge of funeral

luncheons at St. Mary Church for 42 years. Prayer service Thursday afternoon at

4 p.m.

Anna M. Hoppe, 96, of Hebron, IN, passed away on Sunday, January

9, 2000. She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Cotner of Hebron; five

grandchildren: Steven Cotner of Hebron, David Cotner of Cedar Lake, Thomas

Cotner of Hebron, Carol Bunce of Crown Point and Diana Goodman of South Haven,

IN; nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; one son-in-law, Chester

Cotner, three brothers, Louis Bein, William Bein and Herman Bein, and four

sisters, Louise Dehnel, Elisie Wind, Helen Piepho and Emma Wicksell.

Funeral services will be held Saturday,

January 15, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Matz Funeral Home in Chicago, IL, Pastor

Arnold Windisch-Graetz officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgewood Cemetery,
