Agnes Marie Brezinski, 59, of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, October

17, 1998, at home. A long time area resident, she was born March 16, 1939, in

Joliet, Illinois, to the late Stephen and Anna Kurator. She was a homemaker, a

former member of the New Horizons Group, and a former Gary Democratic Precinct

Committeewoman. On December 1, 1990, she married Ronald Brezinski. She is

survived by husband, Ronald; three sons, Robert (Dee Leach) Griffith of South

Bend, Steven (Carrie) Griffith of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Michael

Griffith of Crown Point; two daughters, Elizabeth (Kevin) Erler of Hobart and

Stephanie (Roger Sims) Griffith of Peru; brother, Joseph (Linda) Kurator of

Cerritos, California; sister, Elizabeth (Wayne Walton) Michael of Alberta,

Alabama; 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one husband, Robert

Griffith in March of 1985; brothers, Stephen and Edward; and sister, Mary Ann

Roman

Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 21, 1998, at the Rees

Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, with Pastor Dorris

Dunlap officiating. Cremation will be in Calvary Crematory. Visitation will

be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the Rees Funeral Home, Olson

Chapel. The family prefers that memorial gifts be made to either the American

Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.

Roy Q. Auguano, 75, of Lake Station, passed away on Monday, October

19, 1998. A member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Lake Station; a veteran of

WWII, U.S. Army Air Corps; member of American Legion Post 454 New Chicago. He

worked in the home improvement field for many years. Preceded in death by his

brother, Joseph Auguano and sister, Carmen Villarrael. Survived by wife of 46

years, Doris (nee Garner) Auguano; one daughter, Christina M. (Ramon)

Covarrubias; and two granddaughters, Jessica and Melinda Covarrubias, all of

Lake Station; two brothers, Mario Jr. and Richard; five sisters, Theresa,

Gloria, Margaret, Merle and Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 24, 1998 (time pending)

at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2447 Putnam, Lake Station, Indiana, Cremation

will precede the memorial service. There will be no visitation. Burns Funeral

Survived by his wife, Mary Jane; one son, Jack (Ethel) Braschler; one daughter,

Cheryl (Bob) Allen; five grandchildren, Jill (Justin) Rich, Lynn Braschler,

Brooke (Dan) Davis, Robin and Ashley Allen; one great grandson, Tyler Davis;

two brothers, Marvin (May) and Jim Braschler; one sister, Faith Ritsema;

(John) Krachenfels of Hammond; brother-in-law, Walter (Donna) Kostecki of

Hammond; five nephews, Thomas (Annette) Chmiel of Cincinnati, Gregory (Joan)

Chmiel of Cullman, AL, James (Laurie) Krechenfels of Bolingbrook, Mike

Krechenfels of Grand Rapids, MI and Mark (Kimberly) Krechenfels of Crown Point;

two nieces, Barbara (William) Pilarski of South Bend and Christine (Kenneth)

Erdelac of Merrillville; three uncles, Andrew (Ruby) Chmiel of East Chicago,

Department; veteran of World War II U.S Army; member and Past Commander of

American Legion Post 369; member of Voiture 40 & 8; St. Stanislaus Holy Name

Society; Knights of Columbus Msgr. Connolly Council and Southside Boosters

Club. Service schedule for Wednesday: Holy Name Society 7 p.m.; American Legion

7:30 p.m. and Knights of Columbus 8 p.m. Contributions to Hospice of Northwest

Indiana, would be appreciated.

Richard was born June 27, 1926 to Peter and Ann Chmiel. He was a loving son

to his parents and his brother. He served his country in WWII. He married

Theresa Kostecki on June 9, 1956. He was a devoted loving husband. To his many

relatives, especially his nieces and nephews, he was truly devoted. He never

had a day that he wasn't thinking of others first. Uncle Richie was always

there to help if needed. He is deeply loved and will be sadly missed. He will

be held in our memories and hearts.

Charlotte M. Farmer (nee Wright), 96, of Munster, formerly of Gary and

Hammond, passed away on Monday, October 19, 1998. Survived by one daughter,

Joyce Shofroth of Griffith, IN; three grandchildren, Sharon (Danny) Norden of

Gary, Vwe (Denny Gallagher) Fitzgerald and William (Sherrie) Shofroth of

Griffith; five great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; two

sisters, Bernice Toumine of Rensselaer, IN and Edith Clarey of Richmond, VA;

numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by one brother, Lonnie Wright.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday evening, October 20, 1998 at 8

P.M. at the Kuiper Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Halsted, Minister,

officiating. Graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the

Bradford Cemetery in Monon, Indiana. Friends are invited to meet with the

Mrs. Farmer was retired from Amoco Oil Company with 23 years of service

and has been living in the Calumet area since 1922.

Marie Fieser, 82, of Port Charlotte, FL and formerly of Shawano, WI,

passed away in Southlake Nursing Home in Merrillville, IN, on Monday, October

19, 1998. She is survived by husband, Paul Fieser of Port Charlotte, FL; five

children: Sharon (Rudy) Tinglof of Merrillville, IN, Jerry (Rose) Fieser of

Hebron, IN, Roger (Linda) Fieser of Arlington Heights, IL, Carol Kay Fieser

and Riley David (Mary) Fieser, both of Greenville, WI; nine grandchildren and

seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Fieser was retired from Wisconsin Bell Telephone with 15 years

service. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte FL,

and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star since 1950.

Kuczwara of Lansing, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Davis of Munster and

William "Bill" Earl Slagley, 72 of Lakes of the Four Seasons, passed away

Friday, October 16, 1998 at Rush Presbyterian Hosptial, Chicago. He was born

October 10, 1926 in Knox, IN, to the late William Earl Sr. and Esther E. Barnes

Slagley. William proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of

WWII. He was a 1950 graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute in Terre Haute,

Registered Professional Engineer with 13 patents, member of Fraternities SIGMA

NU, TAU BETA PI, TAU NU TAU, National Military Engineers Society, member of

AISE and ASME, the LOFS Golf Association and very active in the community of

LOFS. William retired from Inland Steel Company in 1985 after 30 years. He was

an Assistant Chief Engineer, foremost authority in basic oxygen furnace and

member of Inland Retirees 25 Year Club. He is survived by and will be deeply

missed by wife, Anna L. Slagley; five daughters, Susan Robertson of Michigan

City, Janet Peterson and Barbara Rochon of Winterhaven FL, Linda Handshoe of

Marquette, MI and Tammy (Larry) Krueger of Winterhaven, FL; one son, Eric

(Karen) Slagley of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 10 grandchildren; three great

grandchildren; two sisters, Kate McCrocklin of Terre Haute, IN and Alberta

Parrish of Paris, IL; one brother, Donald (Joanne) Slagley of Venice, FL.

Patricia Ann Smith (nee Anderson), 49, of Whiting passed away on Sunday,

October 18, 1998 at her residence. Survived by husband of 31 years, Thomas R.

Smith; two daughters, Tabitha (Ed) Harnisch and Patricia (Ben) Howell; one son,

Timothy Smith; four grandchildren, Edward, Jr., Michael, Stephanie and Jessica;

father, J. C. (Connie) Anderson; two step-sisters, Laura (Gary) Staton and Joy

(Charles) Wiscaber; two step-brothers, John Anderson and Chris (Elynn)

Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her mother Opal

Anderson (nee Maggard) in 1968.

A private cremation service was held. There was no visitation. Mrs. Smith

was a Whiting resident for the past 17 years; owner of Pat's Beauty Shop in

Whiting for 15 years, and a beauty operator for 31 years. Arrangements by the

Lukowski of Joliet, IL and Florian (Eleanor) Lukowski of Dolton, IL; two

Clares), DeKalb , IL; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Preceded

Barbara Dean Trigger Merrillville Barbara Dean Trigger, 74, of

Merrillville. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on January 28, 1924. Passed away

in Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso, on Saturday, October 17, 1998.

Barbara graduated from Munger Grade School in Kansas City, Missouri, and

graduated from North Kansas City High School, class of 1940. She was a retired

employee of the Merrillville School System where she was employed as a

secretary for Salk Grade School in Merrillville for 24 years. She was awarded

the Ross Township Merrillville School System Employee of the Year. She also

was honored for her work in the Drug Prevention Program in the Merrillville

School System. She was a member of the Independence Hill Presbyterian Church

in Merrillville. Preceded in death by husband, John W. Trigger in 1990 after

47 years of marriage. Survived by children Marilyn A. (Robert) Joyce of

Valparaiso, Carolyn Medved (Daniel) Robbins of Roselawn, Indiana, Richard W.

(Myra) Trigger of Coppell, Texas, James M. Trigger of Indianapolis, Michele S.

(Ralph) Howe of Merrillville; one sister Betty (Ray) Boldan of Shawnee, Kansas;

one brother, Thomas (Rosemary) Palmer of Liberty, Missouri; grandchildren, Tim,

graduated from Hobart High School, class of 1946. He attended Indiana

University in Bloomington, Indiana. He served with the U.S. Army during the

Occupation of Japan. He was an active member and Elder at Trinity Lutheran

Church in Hobart, and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church dartball

team. He was a reitired employee of Gainer Bank (NBD) in Merrillville.

Preceded in death by parents Elsie and "Doc" Warren Reid Westbay. Survived by
