Garcia of South Chicago, IL. Andres (Regina) Arenivas Jr. of East Chicago, IN.,

Andrea (James) Morgan of Park Forest, IL. and Antoinette Arenivas of East

Chicago, IN.; 19 grandchildren and other relatives from Laredo, Texas.

Florida, passed away Saturday, December 2, 1995, at Mercy General Hospital,

Sacramento, CA; Survived by brother, Bill (Joan) Babincsak of Crown Point;

sister -in law, Carol Babincsak of North Carolina; Nieces, nephews, uncles,

William J. Backs

William J. Backs, 70, of Wickenburg, Arizona, passed away December 4, 1995

in Wickenburg, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet P. Backs;

daughters Cathlyn S. Backs of Wickenburg and Rebecca A. Backs - Eckert of

Wickenburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Viora and Ernest Backs.

Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the

family would appreciate any donations be made to the Museum of the Mountain

Man, 700 E. Hennick Frement Lake Road, Pinedale, Wyoming 82941.

Mr. Backs was a manufacturers representative from Chicago for over 20

years. Hhe was a WW II Navy Veteran and a member ofthe American Legion. Mr.

Backs was also a member of the Presbyterian Church in Indiana a d Illinois.

Both he and Mrs. backs attended Roosevelt High School in Indiana. Mr. Backs

graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1943 and still has many friends in the

area. He was born January 5, 1925, in Knox County, Indiana, and has been a

winter resident from Pinedale, Wyoming for 8 years. Frey Funeral Home and

John G. Balok, 80, of Whiting,Indiana, passed away Wednesday, December 6,

1995, at St.Margaret Mercy Hospital, Hammond. Survived by his wife, Mary

(Bodnar) (nee Dlugokinski); one son, Richard (Penny) Bodnar of Las Vegas;

grandson, Benjamin Bodnar, of Whiting. many nieces and nephews.

Irving W. Eads "Red", 89, of Hessville, IN. passed away Monday, December

4, 1995 at The Community Hospital in Munster. He is survived by one son, Tom

(Pat) Eads, with whom he made his home; one brother, Harrison (Edna) Eads of

Crown Point; one sister, Virginia (late Cecil) Lindsey of Hammond;

brother-in-law, Manfred (late Maurine) Hodge of Hammond; several nieces,

nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by wife, Agnes, sisters, Maurine and

Vera and brothers, Virgil and Arthur.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 7, 1995, 10:30 a.m. at

Mr. Eads was a lifelong resident of Hammond; retired from Rand McNally

Co. in 1971 with 49 years of service and member of Rand McNally 25 Year Club;

member of First Christian Church of Highland; McKinley Lodge #712 of Hammond;

Masonic Low 12 Club; Hammond YMCA Senior Club and Calumet Men's Retirement

Club. Irving was a quiet, gentle and loving man. He will be missed by all that

knew him.

Rita Bridget Fabian, 80, of Hammond, IN. passed away Monday, December 4,

1995 at the Hammond-Whiting Convalescent Center. She is survived by her

husband, Daniel; one son, Dan (Marcia) Fabian of Chicago; two grandsons, Dan

and Kevin Fabian; one sister, Margaret (Art) Brne of Flossmoor, Illinois; three

brothers, Edward (Rose) Malloy of Hammond, Michael Malloy of Merrillville and

James Malloy of New Orleans, LA.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 7, 1995, 9 a.m. at the

Virgil Huber Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Sacred Heart

Catholic Church, Whiting, with Msgr. F. Raymond Fowerbaugh celebrating the

Alice M. Fuhrmark

Alice Marie Fuhrmark, passed away December 1, 1995, in Yorkville,

Illinois. She is survived by a nephew, Alan G. Fuhrmark of Plano, Texas; a

niece, Arliss Fuhrmark Cox (Emerson) of Generva, Illinois, and many great and

great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by mother, father,

sister, brother (Arthur O. Fuhrmark) and a nephew (Arthur E. Fuhrmark).

Private burial services were held Tuesday, December 5, 1995, at the

Ridgelawn Cemetery, Griffith, Indiana. Contributions in her memory may be made

to the Indiana Methodist Children's Home in Lebanon, Indiana 96052.

Alice was born February 1, 1903, in Chicago, Illinois; she was a

kindergarten teacher in Indiana Harbor, Indiana, at the Washington Elementary

School more than forty years. After retirement she volunteered as a pre-school

teacher at the Indiana Harbor Methodist Church where she was a member. She was

also a member of the P.E.O. Arrangements were made by Malone Funeral Home,

Mr. Guiden was a teacher and counselor in East Chicago and Hammond, IN. for

34 years. Served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was president of

Phi Delta Kappa.

Folsom, California; two nephews, Daniel and Donald Erlandson; father in law,

Frank Russell Jones

Frank Russell Jones, passed away onDecember 5, 1995, at home after a brief

bout with cancer. He leaves his wife Diane of 40 years; a daughter, Kimberly

Jones-Wolucka (Stanley Wolucka) ofMunster; two sons,Craig (Annie) Jones of

Hobart and David John Jones II of Chicago; three grandchildren, Andrew,

Meredith and Delaney (Craig) Jones; also two brothers in law,three sisters in

law; ten nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews and many friends.

Friends may visit the family at Burns-Kish Funeral Home at 8415 Calumet

Avenue in Munster on Thursday, December 7, 1995, from 2 until 9 pm. A brief

Memorial Service will be held at 7 pm. He will be interred at Arlington

Frank worked for Union Carbide of Whiting from 1957 through 1975 and also

owned several businesses including Impact Travel in Munster.he retired from the

United States Coast Guard Reserve as a Commander in 1972 and was a member of

the Trade Wind Pirates. Frank had traveled extensively. He was a 1951 graduate

of Northwestern University and devoted Cub fan.

Margaret K. Kestner (nee Kalina) of Hammond, beloved wife and mother

entered into eternal life on Friday, December 1, 1995 at her home. She is

survived by her husband, Daniel M.; one son, Charles E. (Patricia) Kestner of

Hammond; daughter, Margo E. (Clarence) McCoy of Hammond; two sisters, Helen

(late Herbert) Hansen of Schererville and Irene (Edward) Mackowiak of

Schererville; brother, John C. (Phoebe) Kalina of Arleta, California, and

numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Rudy

Kalina.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 1995, 11 a.m. at

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona, Hammond, Indiana, with the

Rev. Joseph V. Murphy officiating. Per Mrs. Kestner's request there will be no

visitation. Interment will be private .

Mrs. Kestner was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church,

Hammond. She was a loving wife and mother and will be missed by all that knew

and Jim Mitchell; two sisters, Marion (John) Hornyak and Harriet Skeen;

Kutie of Highland; five grandchildren; one brother, Nick (Ann) Synko of

Synko; three brothers, Stephen, Walter, and John Synko; three sisters, Ann

step-daughters,Michele (Michael) Horvath of Munster, Nancy Gibson of Crown

Point; step-son, Michael Hemmes of Chicago; five grandchildren, Kristin and

Triana Hasselgren, Jennifer Bettancourt, Stefanee and BriAnne Gibson; brother,

Edward (Dolly) Tommasi of New Jersey; five sisters, Edith MastroBattisto, Sue

(Robert) Coffman, Mary Mancini, Julia Sacco and Dorothy (Richard) Lietz, all of

Mr. Tommasi was an active member of American Legion Post 430 in

Merrillville; holding several offices and serving as Bar Manager for many

years. He initiated the "Friday Night Fish Fry" and was the cook for 12 years.

Hammond; one son, Stanley (Bonnie) Totos of Calumet City; seven grandchildren,

Tim Totos, Jill Totos, John Totos, Jennifer Totos, April (Joe) Grisham, Jean

Casmir and Amy Casmir; one great-granddaughter, Terra Totos; numerous nieces

and nephews.

Florida, passed away Saturday, December 2, 1995, at Mercy General Hospital,

Sacramento, CA; Survived by brother, Bill (Joan) Babincsak of Crown Point;

sister -in law, Carol Babincsak of North Carolina; Nieces, nephews, uncles,

aunts. Preceded in death by parents, John W.and Helen; brothers, John N. and

Thomas.

Joseph H.Hunt

Joseph H. Hunt, 63, of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 1995, at

St.Mary Medical Center, Hobart. He issurvived by wife, Margaret (Peggy) Hunt;

daughter, Alice (Jason) Cope of Hebron; sister, Alice (Daniel) Erlandson of

Folsom, California; two nephews, Daniel and Donald Erlandson; father in law,

Albert Marconi of Hobart; Uncle, Rev. Maurice Miller of Lafayette, IN;

Preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Madeline Hunt; mother in law, Margaret

Marconi.

Friends may call 2 to 9 pm Friday at Rendina Funeral Home, 5100 Cleveland

St., Gary, Legion Service 6:30 pm on Friday. prayer service 7 pm Friday.

Funeral service 9:15 am Saturday from the chapel, 10 am at St. Bridget's

Church with Rev.Dominic Bertino and the Rev. Maurice Miller concelebrating.

Burial in Plum Grove Cemetery, Lowell, Indiana. In lieu of flowers ,donations

may be made to Hobart Humane Society.

Mr. Hunt was a member of American Legion Post #54, CIO Local #1066;

retired from Sheet and Tin Mill, US Steel Corporation. Graduate of Indiana

University.

Stella J. Savage

Griffith

Stella J. Savage, 84, of Griffith, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday,

December 5, 1995. She is survived by her husband, Robert E.; one son, Bob

(Peggy) Savage of Chesterton, Indiana; one sister, Lillian (Garnet) Ward of

Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday,- December 7, 1995, 10 a.m. at

the Kuiper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Clyde K. Hunter officiating. Burial

at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, Indiana. Friends may meet with the

family Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd (2

blks south of Ridge Road), Highland, Indiana.

Mrs. Savage was a member of Peace United Church of Christ of Merrillville.

Arthur "Tom" Tommasi

Arthur "Tom" Tommasi, 69, passed away Sunday, December 3, 1995, at his

home. Survivors: wife, Virginia (Franko); three daughters, Tammy Tommasi of

Portage, Terri and Toni (Mel) Tommasi of Jasper; one son, Timothy Tommasi; two

step-daughters,Michele (Michael) Horvath of Munster, Nancy Gibson of Crown

Point; step-son, Michael Hemmes of Chicago; five grandchildren, Kristin and

Triana Hasselgren, Jennifer Bettancourt, Stefanee and BriAnne Gibson; brother,

Edward (Dolly) Tommasi of New Jersey; five sisters, Edith MastroBattisto, Sue

(Robert) Coffman, Mary Mancini, Julia Sacco and Dorothy (Richard) Lietz, all of

New York; many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 9, 1995, at 1 pm at the

Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service, 6360 Broadway, Merrillville, American Legion

Post #430 will also participate. Friends may visit with the family from 12

noon, until time of service. Cremation at Calumet Park Crematory will precede

the Memorial Service.

Mr. Tommasi was an active member of American Legion Post 430 in

Merrillville; holding several offices and serving as Bar Manager for many

years. He initiated the "Friday Night Fish Fry" and was the cook for 12 years.

A Marine Corps Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.

away on Monday, December 4, 1995. Survived by two sons, Timothy (Laurie) Vestal

Vestal of South Haven and April (Mike) Feterick of Portage; grandchildren:

Brittney, Tyler and Devin; two brothers, Charles Vestal of Portage and Jerry
