Seasons), passed away Wednesday, December 10, 1997 at her home. Survived by two
sons, John Mark (Patricia) Adams of Webster, N.Y. and James S. Adams and Joseph
M. Dress of Washington D.C.; six grandchildren: Nicholas, Katherine and Michael
Adams, Christopher Downs, Amanda Jensen and Jennifer Raymond;
great-granddaughter, Colleen Jensen; one sister, Margaret (Stephen) Ozimec; two
nieces, Peg and Victoria Ozimec. Preceded in death by husband, Harry J.

Theda M. Allen, 86, of Valparaiso, formerly of Munster, passed away on
Friday, December 12, 1997 at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. Mrs. Allen
is survived by two brothers, Charles (Patsy) Neal of Valparaiso and Glenn Neal
of Robinson, Illinois; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by
husband, Alva and son, Larry.

David Jon Berg
David Jon Berg, 55, of Crown Point, passed away Wednesday, December 10,
1997. A lifelong area resident, he was born April 26, 1942 in Gary, Indiana, to
the late Lester and Helen Berg. He was an electrician working in the 80-inch
hot strip at Inland Steel. He was a member of U.S. Steel Workers Local Union
#1010 and U.S. Army veteran serving as a Medic. He is survived by his loving
wife, Susan Berg; one son, Martin (Vicki) Taylor of Valparaiso; four daughters,
Susan (David) Drobac of Valparaiso, Melissa Lesch of Hobart, Stephanie Berg of
Texas and Jennifer Berg of Merrillville; three brothers, Robin Berg of New
York, Mark Berg of Marion and Gary Berg of Kouts; two sisters, Bonnie (Rod)
Hontz of Valparaiso and Susan Berg of California; six grandchildren, June,
Tony, Sarah, Joshua, Kyle and Jordan; nephew, Ryan, and niece Heather. He was
preceded in death by one brother, Eric Berg.

Mary L. Fisher
Mary L. Fisher, 83, of Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday,
December 10, 1997 at the Hospice Center of the Calumet Area. She is survived by
her loving son, Philip T. (Sandra) Fisher of Munster; three grandchildren:
Amanda Fisher of New York, Robyn (James) Dahlin of Chicago and Tom; loving
brother, George (Betti) Antonic of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one niece, Judy
(Bronco) Tercic and two nephews, Jim (Irene) and Jeff (Daniela) Antonic.
Mary was born November 27, 1914 in Weirton, West Virginia, to John and Mary
Toth Antonic. She was a graduate of Washington High School in Indiana Harbor;
and received a B.A. degree in Sociology and Master degree in Social Work from
the University of Chicago. She retired in 1976 from the Lake County Department
of Public Welfare. During her career she had worked for the Gary Public School
System and had been Director of the Lake County Mental Health Clinic. Mary was
a member of the Lake County Association of Retired Teachers, Valparaiso Chapter
of the American Association of University Women and the Porter County League of
Women. Mary has been an active resident for the past 11 years of the Pine
Village Retirement Community in Valparaiso, where friends are invited to join
Mary's family for a time of remembrance next Sunday, December 21, 1997 at 4
P.M. Burial took place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, Indiana.

Donald J. Meulemans, 68, of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, December 12,
1997 in Valparaiso. He was born August 19, 1929 in Glennwood City, Wisconsin,
to Emil and Catherine (Marko) Meulemans and has been an area resident for 16
years coming from Crown Point. On July 10, 1948 in Black Oak, Indiana, he
married Pauline Reder who survives. Also survived by three daughters, Joyce
Antczak of Crown Point, Tina Sears of Hobart and April Greschen of Michigan
City; four sons, Donald E. of Gary, Daniel P. of Port St. Lucie, Florida and
Emily J. and Timothy M., both of Valparaiso; 21 grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald of Griffith and James of Gary; one sister,
Frances Rowden of Kentucky. His sister Shirley Hardin preceded him in death.
Mr. Meulemans was a custodian for the Crown Point School Corporation.

the Crown Point School System, having retired from Timothy Ball School. He was
an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and an avid gardener.

Robert "Bob" D. Swentko, 63, of Highland, passed away Friday, December 12,
1997. Survived by wife, Barbara (nee Dunker); four daughters, Roberta "Bobbi"
(Ron) Bixman of Dyer, Brenda Pietrzcki of Highland, Bernadine "Deanie" (Eric)
Adams of Dyer and Elizabeth "Beth" (Randy) Richardson of Chesterton; nine
grandchildren: Reshea' Bixman, Anthony and Rebecca Pietrzcki, Derek and Aubree
Adams, Brittany, Zachary, Shelby and Kelsey Richardson; three brothers-in-law,
John (Jerri) Doran of California, Bobby (Cecelia) Westerfield of Munster and
Phil (Gloria) Foster of California. Preceded in death by parents, Anthony
Swentko and Cornelia Kulczyk.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 15, 1997 at the
Kuiper Funeral Home Chapel with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our
Lady of Grace Church, Highland, with Rev. Edward Moszur officiating. Burial at
Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville, Indiana. Friends are invited to meet with
the family Sunday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039
Kleinman Road (2 blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland, IN.
Mr. Swentko was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church, Highland; employed at
Inland Steel for over 43 years and member of Inland 25 Year Club; member of
Knights of Columbus Marquette Council 3631 of Griffith, who will recite the
rosary at 7 p.m. Sunday; a two time past Grand Knight and District Deputy;
served in the U.S. Army; and was a member of American Legion Post #369 of East
Chicago, who will hold services 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to
Hospice of the Calumet Area. Father Moszur will hold a prayer service at 3:30
John D. Vargas
John D. Vargas, 47, of East Chicago, passed away Friday, December 12,
1997. Survived by one son, John, Jr. at home; one sister, Juanita Morgan of
Portage; one brother, Trinidad Silvas of Laredo, TX; two half-sisters, Sylvia
(Jose) Hernandez of East Chicago and Mary Wilkerson of East Chicago; numerous
nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Anita.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 16, 1997 at 9:30 a.m. at
the Lesniak Funeral Home, 4918 Magoun Ave., East Chicago, and 10 a.m. Mass at
St. Stanislaus Church with Msgr. John Siekierski officiating. Burial at Chapel
Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends may call at the Lesniak
Funeral Home for visitation on Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Rosary
service at 2 p.m.
Mr. Vargas was a long time resident of the Calumet area and a retired
employee of the Inland Steel Company and member of Inland 25-Year Club.
Marian C. Wiser
Marian C. Wiser, 87, of Schererville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday,
December 13, 1997. She is survived by one daughter, Donna Denslaw of
Schererville; one sister, Anna Manowski of Ohio; seven grandchildren and 12
great grandchildren. Preceded in death by two sons, Harry and Mark and one
daughter, Charlotte Gresser.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation at Calumet Park
Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
Mrs. Wiser was a former member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Gary.
Kuiper Funeral Home, Highland, Indiana, in charge of the arrangements.
