Manufacturing a future: Region's economy has been evolving

A machine lifts a steel coil at U.S. Steel Gary Works. Manufacturing, particularly steelmaking, remains central to the Northwest Indiana economy. One out of every six employed workers in the Gary metro area works in manufacturing, and more than 60 percent of those manufacturing employees are involved in metal production.
