  1. I totally agree. The only problem is... These people want to come here to shop, to buy gas, to do a LOT of things; whereas, I try and find any available means to avoid going there. Crossing that state line is among the top most hated things that I do.

  2. It's pretty easy unfortunately. It's called discovery. When Uran saw what was going to be put out in the public forum... he had no choice but to settle. I really wish SGT Poling would have had the means to remain unemployed and fight this. The people of Crown Point would have been outraged at what Uran and his cronies have been doing to their city.

Palmateer is just a piece of garbage that has been allowed to run roughshot over this community since falling into the good graces of his Highness, Mr. David Uran. It's absolutely amazing what some money and a few paid trips can buy you these days.

  3. First: $2.7 million is a per year number. The $1.5 million in savings would be compounded because these people would not be eligible again, so that 1.5 million would be 3 million next year if the statistics for drug failures remain the same.

Second: Most state employees are subject to random drug testing and they WORK for their paycheck. Why would we not subject people who are living off our tax dollars sitting on their @$$es collecting checks to the same scrutiny to earn taxpayer dollars. Those who would argue against this are complete morons...

  4. Bobsr, you are so blinded by your political views that you refuse to see what is happening. I don't care which side of the fence you vote on, but please have enough common sense to look at the issue in another light. What Obabma is doing right now is tantamount to school yard bullying. He wants his way, and he isn't going to budge, threatens to veto if he does not get his way, and that is the only thing that he will here.

  6. Basil Ubanwa, the moral of this story is: Next time, contribute to or host a fund raiser for Mr. Dave Uran if you want things to go your way. Nothing is going to happen in that town unless Mr. Mayor "gets a taste".

  7. common_sense:

Just to clear a few issues up so that the citizens of Crown Point are aware of the facts.

First: Palmateer was not arrested for pointing the gun at the ON DUTY police officer. Are you shocked? You should be... the officer involved was ordered not to even refer to the incident in his police report. I am sure that this will all come out when the trial gets underway.

Second: Palmateer was not convicted of DUI. He was allowed to plead guilty to Reckless Driving. Big Shock that his influence was allowed to carry over into a Crown Point courtroom

Dave Uran is indeed corrupt. He has been a young jedi in training, with the master being McDermott. This citizens of Crown Point need to stand up and take notice. At a minimum, he needs to voted out of office next go around. I would highly suggest that the people of Crown Point put forth a petition to have him removed from office. His antics are going to cost the City of Crown Point huge... which means more taxes to cover the greed and corruption that has flowed from his office.

  8. The impending doom that is going to become this country's fate as of Friday is a slashed budget, and furloughs for the entire government (minus the president's salary of course).

Let's try this one on for size. Instead of slashing all of these budgets and furloughing people who actually work for a living.... Let's furlough the checks of those who DON'T work for them! I have read through several OPM papers that dictate which agencies are exempt from the furlough and all of the "special" programs that are exempt as well. MOST of those programs are government gimme's. In other words, people getting OUR tax dollars for nothing in return. If we have to curtail something, let's start there. Slash all of our funding to countries that hate us and swear they will not stop until we are no longer on this earth. Let's slash the programs that pay people to do nothing. Let's stop paying the very people who were elected to provide for the safety of this nation when they took the oath to serve as our elected representatives.

If I show up to work and don't do what I am payed for, I don't get paid. Why is it that our elected officials can show up, do nothing, and rake in such fine salaries and benefits while "we the people" take in the back side? It is complete hipocracy... on BOTH sides of the aisle. Democrat or Republican, doesn't matter. You were elected to govern, which in it's very definition means to come to a reasonable compromise for the good of all people. None of these people are doing this. Republicans sit on their high horses just like the Democrats do, and NOTHING gets done. All the while, all parties involved try and convince us how it is our best interest that do NOTHING.

I am sick of it. At some point, "we the people" are going to do the same things our forefathers did and revolt against a government that has lost its way and is no longer representative of the people it is supposed to be working for.

  9. to not a crook,
you are exactly right, the city does own this. So why would you possibly think that using proven business incentives to attract new commercial activity would be used here. Instead, McDermott will have his hand out, under the table, looking for a nondescript manilla envelope that has sizable weight to "influence" any potential decision.

  10. The simple fact that Uran and his cronies are using an incident that is almost a year old to take his shots at Officer Poling are just par for the course. He is following closely in the footsteps of his best friend McDermott. The "Fall in Line" or get out mentality needs to be addressed by the citizens of Crown Point quickly before you find yourself in the situation that Hammond is in. I hope Officer Poling's lawsuit smacks Uran and and his puppet police chief right in the face. If the residents of Crown Point don't do something now, they will be paying for it in increased taxes when the courts award Poling millions.
