- Higher paying jobs require that these people have a higher skill set....which they do not. Also, the union system puts people in the same pay grade based on years of service and not what they actually know.

- If anything expand the entire program - give all parents access to vouchers to the amount of 80% of their property taxes capped at $5K. The public school will save money by not having to educate the student which leaves more money (at least 20% property taxes) to educate students that go to public schools. Competition breeds success. Competition breeds efficiency. Currently, school districts know they have a blank check to do what they want and many times waste tax payers money on bloated projects using scare tactics like layoffs to scare people into voting for more taxes.

- K, give you point about athletics....and I do agree that this raise ridiculous. However, Mitch did not strip any power from the unions just made the union bosses have to work for its members. I still to this day have yet to see ANY teachers unions protesting the unfair distribution of education dollars in this state. If the teachers want more compensation, fight INDY not your local taxpayers. BUT, no props to using the word obtuse....you're trying to hard to sound educated by using a word that fell out of fashion many years ago.

- then why don't we ever see the teachers unions going down to INDY to fight for equal funding for schools? Why do the good schools get less money and then the school corporations take the easy way out and burden the local community with higher taxes? Start fighting as one union! And don't start on how tax $$$ are spent...some of the area schools have better athletic facilites then many colleges.

- To the teacher that has a combined income of $80-100K per year and cannot raise 3 children on 2 teacher salaries, time to re-evaluate your spending habits. And to the teacher that complains about putting in 300 unpaid overtime hours...welcome to the real world. Most salaried workers in America put in more than 300 OT hours a year and so not get paid....its part of the job if you want to be successful.
