The school has every right to look through someone's phone when confiscated if they have reason to suspect that there is something on that phone related to whatever incident is at hand, in this case the sexting scandal. However, the scope of their search cannot exceed things related to the incident at hand. The school exceeded the scope allotted to them by searching through EVERYTHING in these student's phones. This illegal search ended up leading to the suspension of dozens of students for reasons unrelated to the incident at hand.

- What bothers me the most is that more people ended up being suspended for things completely unrelated to the sexting incident due to an illegal search of the content of people's phones than people suspended for anything related to the incident.
