- Yet, the school has horrible graduation rates and a large majority of students cannot read, write, or do math at a high school level. Wohoooo, let's celebrate what's really important!

- I am so tired of Gary complaining about years of abuse and mismanagement. It is the residents of Gary's fault as they continue to elect the same people over and over again. A few things. Money for free and reduced lunches comes from federal subsidies not state money. Gary gets more money per pupil than any other school in the state, yet they consistently are at the bottom of graduation rates and test scores.. Stop wasting taxpayer money. Let's use that money in schools that have high graduation rates and test scores. This way society will get a return on its investment.

- Why is it when these rallies happen the only ones that go are those from schools that are so poor they are being shut down or should be? And why is Vernon Smith always speaking on this topic-his constituents in Gary get more per pupil funding from the state than any other school district and yet has among the lowest graduation rates and test scores. i am opposed to vouchers, but think we should take money away from Gary schools and spend it were it will do more good.

- Great point! The issue of disruption in school is where most of the legal arguments hinge. The SCOTUS has looked at if the school over-reacted in pulling kids out, thus making the school, not the student responsible for the distraction. Also, is it a disruption if 1 kid stays home, or does it take 3, or 5? What is the magic number?
- March 18, 2013 9:28 pm on Griffith Public Schools, students settle lawsuit relating to Facebook comments

- The Supreme Court had routinely found that a school CANNOT take disciplinary action against students for activities that occur exclusively outside of school. Unless these threats were made on a school computer, or the threats were repeated at school by the girls, the school CANNOT take disciplinary action. Were these girls stupid-sure; did they show poor judgment-of course; did the school overstep its legal authority- yes! Lastly, a school handbook CANNOT legally seek to control out of school behavior. It can only control school related behavior - including extra curricular activities. Posting on Facebook, no mater how stupid and vile, when occurring wholly outside of school, cannot be regulated by a school handbook.

- Wow, he really needs to speak to his legal team. This has been ruled unconstitutional numerous times. You cannot randomly drug test the general population of a school. You can do it for any extra-curricular activity that goes beyond the fundamental right to a free public education.
