- I understand everyone has their own views, and I won't argue about that. To me sports and extrcurricular activities are a privilege to be able to do and attend. They could easily be taken away from schools to save money. If you aren't able to pass a drug test then the privilege is taken away. This is life, and high school gets you prepared for it. You have to earn what you want, and continue showing you want it. If you are involved in drugs you are at risk of hurting yourself and your peers. The ignorance of drug addiction through kids needs to be addressed, and steps to help them need to be taken. I lost my closest cousin due to overdose while we were younger. No one new the problem existed until it was too late.

- I don't see the problem in this. When I was in high school, 8 years ago, if you were in a sport you had to sign a waiver stating you would be drug free. They also did random drug tests for all the students that were in extracurricular activities. I am surprised that Valparaiso is just now doing this. If you participate in sports you are to be a role model to younger children, your community, and are expected to follow the legal laws of your state. There are a lot of teenage deaths from overdosing on drugs. Parents don't always know if there is an addiction (problem), so this can help to lead that student in the correct direction to seek help. Not everything is a negative.
