- The US government didn't think he was too "immature or irresponsible" to possess a firearm when the handed him a fully operational M4, then trained him in its use, control, and power. Basiger is a U.S soldier, probably with more gun training than anyone posting in this discussion. He doesn't need safety courses, or training. He has that. what he needs to do is (duh) NOT DRINK. That was the only problem with this whole scenario. Had he been sober, he wouldn't even have his **legally purchased and obtained** pistol on him, let alone caused a scene, nor fired the gun, or ran.

- Read previous comments before posting, please. It really detracts from the credibility of your posts otherwise... But since we can't be bothered to do that, allow me to reiterate. He does not have a carry permit. He was drunk. He fired the pistol. (Due to a BAC of .18) These were his faults. However, I'm certain that he and myself both have more firearm knowledgeability and experience than almost anyone posting in this thread. Basiger is a U.S. soldier, fully trained in the operation, control and use of firearms. Slight difference, the firearms he was trained with are much larger, much more dangerous machines. He doesn't need "Safety Courses" or "training" or some guy behind a computer with no clue to tell him that was a bad decision. HE got drunk. Made a bad decision. For those that don't know, BAC of .18% can put smaller people (as is Basiger) into a stupor. He honestly probably had no clue what was even going on.

- Everyone whining about him having a gun, obviously don't know anything. He is a member of the US army. He should be able to have a gun whereverl he feels like it, considering he was issued one by the government to protect your rights. Sure he got drunk and made a bad decision. But that doesnt make my first statement invalid.
