  1. People who are dually-addicted to alcohol and gambling will often gamble away their alcohol money. Gambling is the stronger addiction. Someone who arrives early to gamble all day is developing a gambling problem. It's only a matter of time before it will affect family, work, health, legal issues, etc.

  2. I agree with Fast' Ed. If Quinn's veto of SB 1849 is overturned, there would also be casinos in Chicago and Danville. They would both also draw gamblers who are currently going to Indiana. You can only slice the pie in so many pieces before all anyone gets is crumbs!

  3. Morality is not solely the province of religions. Who believes that only religious people know that some things are right, and some things are wrong? ALL laws are moral, ie. lawmakers' idea of what is right or wrong for their constituents.

The saying that you can't legislate morality means that you can't change someone's morality by passing legislation. Smoking is legal, but not in public places. Drinking is legal, but not in cars. Gambling machines are now legal, but that doesn't mean that they should be in ALL places either.

Government officials need to note that law without morals is tyranny. The public needs to note that freedom without morality leads to self-destruction. Over time, players are guaranteed losers!
