People make mistakes all the time, everyday and rightly so a group of medically trained peers are there to review this kind of behavior. There is a 21 page list of providers for the state of Indiana. I am taking a wild guess that there are several thousand (4000+) EMTs licensed to provide care to the public in the state. I am also going to take a stab and say that of them 99% or more practice within the law and do so WITH complete due regard for the safety and well being of their patient. As in all fields, sometimes you will end up with someone that oversteps their boundaries. A person, not the company and not the other employees that work there. The medic and the paramedic both will go thru reviews and will have to justify their actions and may very well lose their state certification but to blatantly say that the actions of a few individuals makes every employee a piece of trash and the entire company worthless is sheer stupidity. Yes I happen to work for Prompt and yes I happen to love the work I do providing patient care for the public. The actions of a very small percentage of the company does not mean that I share in their failure to follow the protocols. Nor does this make me an inferior medic. It means that they have screwed up and they will face the board and be dealt with accordingly. East Chicago opted to privatize their EMS, Prompt won the bid. I did not once see Prompt driving around with signs and banners asking the public to "vote for me" to win this contract. The city put it out there and the board voted on this to happen. The fallout of privatization is never pretty and the employees of the private company take the flack for the change. I for one will stand in the gap and say that we provide 911 service and we do it to the best of our ability and sometimes we mess up. When was the last time you were perfect? Good day!
