  1. See what teaching to the test gets you? Students are good at multiple guess tests. Just wait until the PARCC test comes out in 2014 and it is essay based, where students will actually have to think to pass the test. I don't think it will be so positive then.

  2. I don't know who is right or who is wrong in this case. Until everything is presented, you cannot make a judgment. Are there bad teachers out there that have relationships with students when they know they shouldn't? Yes. Are there students out there who would lie and make stories up just to get a teacher in trouble? Sure. This is why I think security cameras should be in classrooms and not just in the hallways. You cannot argue it. Would it be a big expense? Sure. What is the cost of peace of mind for all? What if it were taken a step further and you could log in and see your child in class?

  5. "EdisonLearning's standard is to replace computers after five years." That is funny. I know of no school corporation that has the funds to replace computers every 5 years. My desktop for my classroom use, I do believe is older than my middle school students. Who is funding this renovation and upgrade to the school?

  6. We need Workfare - not Welfare. From UK paper The Telegraph:
"It requires people on benefits to do something in exchange for the money rather than sitting idly at home. They work up to eight weeks for 30 hours a week in placements organised by employment centre managers, at the end of which they may be interviewed for a job. If jobseekers pull out after the first week they face having their benefits withdrawn.

Although the criticism is coming principally from Left-wing groups, the idea was pioneered by the Labour government and borrowed from America, where it was introduced by the Clinton administration 15 years ago. Until recently, it involved welfare recipients taking voluntary unpaid placements with public bodies or charities. "

  8. Wow - teachers are spoiled? I can promise you, I did not become a teacher for the pay. There is more to a child's education than the person providing the information and experiences. And education always starts at home. A teacher's pay is now tied to how well a student can take a multiple guess test. I bet our education system will see a spike in improvement if a welfare check, SSI check, or tax return was subject to the same thing. Are there bad teachers? Sure. Are there ways to get rid of a bad teacher? Sure. But you can bet that most teachers in any school are teachers because of the students, because of the promise of the future. Unless you have spent any time in a classroom, don't assume or presume to know how easy or hard it is.

  9. Work with them for the insurance because either way, you'll get it. They did it to the teachers. If your school district paid $xx.00 much more than the state insurance plan costs, the district was required BY LAW to change to a different plan or the state's insurance plan. It sucks. And next session, you can darn well bet that the Republicans down there are going after pensions.
