Please Wait…
One would think that the STM should learn to live and adjust their budget the same way we the tax payers of The Town of Integrity(Munster) have to do when we have increases passed by the fools that run ofr schools that we as taxpayers do not get to use without paying extra for that right.
Do I want to pay more H--L No I DON'T
My wife and I attended the meeting last night and with all the Charts and Graphs what a boring presentation and the fact that approximatly half the folks there were teachers staff and administrators what chance do you have when they broke for discussion in the cafeteria? Sopko talked relentlessly about how unfair it is to Munster and was comparing Munster schools to Valpo schools and how unfair it is that they get more money,
In the cafeteria we were told to sit at tables with a facilitator who would allow everyone to speak about the referendum and ask any questions they had, express ideas and comments. Well the table we were at was pretty much pro Referendum while we are against it from the standpoint that all homes in lake were recently reassesed and when you look at costs in general going up such as gasoline, groceries, cable, satellite TV and other utilities goods and services(the reassesment alone is going to raise everyones taxes) and the fact that we have not had any children in the Munster Schools since the mid 80's.
One individual at the table said if you don't like it move out of Munster to somewhere else. another said what about paying it forward as others did for you. Well I resent both of those comments as we have lived in this town since 1974 probably before either of them were born and we have been paying for 39 years since we moved here and 28 years of paying it forward.
Per the charts and grafts shown last night this referendum appears AND is nothing more than a bandaid to get them to the end of the 7 years; then comes the bombshell of asking for another or the tax that is placed on taxpayers never goes away. We all have to live on a budget and when costs go up we have to cut back by changing our cell phone plans our nights out to dinner and a movie our cable package, driving habits, hamburger instead of steak and so WHY SHOULD the SCHOOL TOWN be any different? We cannot go to our bosses or employers and ask for a raise to cover the escalating cost of living everytime a cost goes up. Mr Sopko and his cohorts on the school board need to learn this lesson also. Hey we are all for a good quality education but not at the expense of the tax payers and the children that will never go to college but rather choose to work in the trades. The School Town seems to be all aboard on advanced placement and honors students.
PLEASE THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE VOTING YES FOR THIS REFERENDUM
AS THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT PAYING FOR 7 YEARS BUT THE TAX WILL NEVER GO AWAY
Consider the escalting costs of everything necessary to live and the effect these costs have on your personal budget. Do you really want a new tax amount to pay for recess aides , summer cleaning of schools , cafeteria aides, classroom aides extra custodians, secretaries making 50,000 a year and so on and so on?
IF NOT VOTE NO FOR THE REFERENDUM
BETTER YET ATTEND THE MEETING TONIGHT AND MAKE YOUR DISATISFACTION HEARD SO THE BOARD HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO NOT PLACE ON THE MAY 2013 BALLOT
1. homes recently reassesed
2 price per gallon of gas up .16 in a day
3 groceries and goods going up
4 cost of medical and medicines increasing
5 possible county and/ or wheel tax
6 property tax cap @ 1% when in reality closer to 2%
7 any time the government entities in lake county want more money they just reasses your home
8 surcharges being place on credit card purchases by stores and business
9 garbage costs going up
10newspapers up
11 cable and satellite tv going up
12 internet costs going up
When does it stop people? When do we say enough and vote against everyincrease that local governing bodies want? personally I have had it I don't want any more of this taxation and cost increases and I will vote against every incumbent local politician as I did in the last election whether it is the MUNSTER School Board or lake county political cronies
Will you stand up?
