  1. Buy your parts online? If a person knows good enough what parts to buy I would bet they could do the repairs themselves and wouldnt have to find a craigslist mechanic. I wonder if a mechanic from craigslist stands behind the job when a problem with the repair returns? Find a trustworthy shop and stick with them. The BBB is a great tool to use in finding a trusted shop. Just keep in mind that the average mechanic working on the side doesnt have the equipment to diagnose and repair some problems on todays cars. I do agree that some shops take advantage of the folks who dont know any better but also there are plenty of honest ones who dont and do right by their customers.
