  5. Why don't you educate all of us on how much the taxpayers are liable for by keeping an employee on the payroll for an additional 10 years. And how much more money will then come out of the pension fund.

    I'm sure you will be surprised on how big that number is compared to the pay bump.

  6. And how much did the pension spike cost you? $0. All Abbott did was pull the wool over your eyes. Oh, he did away with the a pay bump and really stuck it to the big bad public workers of Lansing. Did he save the tax payers money? Nope....it cost them.

    If you knew exactly how it worked, you might have a different opinion. But it's okay, Abbott took something away from public workers of Lansing and that's all that matters.

  7. I would imagine it is news because this had nothing to with the Lansing Police Department and was an operation by Cook County. And last I checked, County doesn't have to answer to any Lansing officials.....that would be my guess.

    I agree with your post. There could/should be a better way that both side should be able to come to an agreement on. However, slashing pension benefits as a previous poster stated is lunacy. Keep in mind, most of these retirees who are receiving a pension aren't receiving social security that could help offset cost of health insurance and other cost of living related things.

    Most (if not all) taxpayers hate the idea that a public worker can retire and receive a pension because they "don't get one". That is nobody's fault but their own. These people put in many years of service and a lot of $$ in their own contributions over the years for the pension. Pension receivers chose a career that offers a pension, others didn't.
