I'm sure you will be surprised on how big that number is compared to the pay bump.
If you knew exactly how it worked, you might have a different opinion. But it's okay, Abbott took something away from public workers of Lansing and that's all that matters.
I agree with your post. There could/should be a better way that both side should be able to come to an agreement on. However, slashing pension benefits as a previous poster stated is lunacy. Keep in mind, most of these retirees who are receiving a pension aren't receiving social security that could help offset cost of health insurance and other cost of living related things.
Most (if not all) taxpayers hate the idea that a public worker can retire and receive a pension because they "don't get one". That is nobody's fault but their own. These people put in many years of service and a lot of $$ in their own contributions over the years for the pension. Pension receivers chose a career that offers a pension, others didn't.
