  1. Two words. GUN PERMIT!! There is a reason, actually several, as to why you should carry a firearm if properly educated and authorized. This would be a good example. Mix in the fact you're in Lake County and it's a no brainer. Educate yourself, purchase a firearm, and defend yourself.

  2. Terrible loss for a city that is getting worse by the day anymore. That is just another reason why I will never be a part of it again. Never thought I would say that either. But i'm pretty sure even the common "po dunk" town marshall could make the connection between the prior incident and his homicide. I doubt even the Portage Police will not figure that one out. And to Old Pirate, since you have all the facts and a definitive story, maybe the Police should subpoena your identity off of here and question you since you can solve the case. I love all the common "arm chair" commandos who sit at home judging and theorizing, but have no clue what real law enforcement entails...

  3. Wow. 18 year old "man" with underage girls. Is this all the Times and Portage Police can find to report? If so, it's PATHETIC!! How many of you out there are married with more than a 2-3 year age difference? Just wondering. Just because he's 18 and they're a few years younger does not at all make him a pedophile or a child molester when they were clearly not being held against their will. But because of that age group it's any different?? They probably all went to the same school too. One question though...where were ANY of their parents?? Can we say assume some responsibility??

  4. Tragic crimes against a scared female, i'll give you that. She SHOULD have been smarter and not answered the phone and changed her number. Problem solved. Phone calls from Jail or Prison are prefaced with a message that it's from an incarcerated person letting you know who you're about to talk to. Don't answer the phone then if you're so "scared"!! But, receiving 19-27 years for setting a car on fire with no physical damage to the woman or anyone else? Even with a habitual offender status, that's steep considering that the man who stabbed a guy to death in Crown Point was given only 8 years. Does anyone else see the flaw in Indiana's sentencing guidelines??

  5. Yet another gang member committing crime in South Haven. Not a surprise. Back to prison he goes....again. What a shame (sarcasm).

  6. Nice plan judge. Let's take an addict who had an ARMED stand-off with the people (police) who were protecting the community from his actions and release him after not even serving 1/4 of his original sentence. Now he's violated how many times and he's obviously not learning. They do have substance abuse classes in prison. They're there for a reason. People like this who can't get their life together. The judge should know what they offer in prison for such issues since he has sentenced plenty of people there. He clearly stated he doesn't know how to treat this guy's addiction. What a surprise this is the outcome with that logic. Maybe a few years of sobriety in prison will help this guy realize how to appreciate society and the people in it. I blame the judge as much as this guy's "disease" or whatever you want to call it.

  7. The community and the city's law enforcement efforts should be applauded. I don't see Portage "tolerating" any crimes, but actually quite the opposite. That goes for the police and the citizens. If you actually want these criminal organizations in your neighborhood then you are ignorant to all they stand for. Maybe you've seen one to many episodes of Sons of Anarchy and are "fans" of their criminal activity. Not sure how much of a problem a small clubhouse that can hold 10 people in it would cause, but it never needed to be there in the first place. Portage is not what it used to be and for this reason I would never live there again but it is making steps in the right direction. The bigger problem would be Port Crossing Apts or some of the other complexes that house all of Illinois' homeless projects residents.

  8. What would be useful for the general public to know is that this is the leader of the MOB Squad. A crotch rocket biker gang in NW Indiana. They frequent the Portage/Lake Station area. Take a look at this clown's facebook page. Posing with small children and firearms, stacks of money, and in general supporting the gangster lifestyle. Typical trash. I agree he will do fine in prison but he won't last unless he joins a real gang, not some wanna-be puppet club.
