  1. J Bird, he stated he wants to impose extra restrictions on private sales at the gun shows. Those restrictions, which have been reported in THE TIMES, are those that are new Buncich laws that he wants to impose on not only the organizers of the legal shows, but on the customers who visit the shows. Realize that it is perfectly legal for private citizens to sell gusn to each other iin the vast majority of states in this nation, apparently Buncich wants to end this common, and legal, practice, by making up his own rules and impose his special rules upon honest citizens.

  2. JBird, its not a matter of anyone "coming for your guns" its a matter of the law, due process, and presumtion of innocence. Mr Bahus points out that our Sheriff wants to set up his own laws, laws that might be in violation of current State and Federal laws. Is not the Sheriff's job to protect his citizens from those who would break the law? If that is his job, then who is giving him authority to impose new laws that he chooses to make up? And why is he choosing to make up these new laws, because he is acting as an obedient servant to his political masters in Cook County, IL. Personally I don't want to see Cook County's politicians corrupt our county any more. Sheriff Buncich should protect us from corruption, not impose his own form of false laws upon us.

  4. Illinois and the Cook Co Sheriff Tom Dart are coming to Indiana to claim that "our guns" are the problem. But if "our guns" are a problem then they are they NOT a problem here in Indiana? We very few shootings/murders on this side of the state line when compared to Cook County/Chicago. So obviously its NOT the availability of guns that is the REAL problem.

What the Illinois politicians and Sheriff Dart don't want to talk about is the HORRIBLE ECONOMY in Cook County. The LACK OF JOBS for inner-city residents. The 25+% UNEMPLOYMENT rate among black males in Chicago. The high school DROP OUT rate in the city of Chicago. The BREAK DOWN OF THE FAMILY UNIT in the inner city of Chicago and how there are many scholarly studies that show that the lack of a strong male figure in the family structure leads to children who are 1) prone to violence, 2) prone to early sexual promiscuity, 3) prone to drop out of school and, 4) more likely to end up in prison.

Perhaps Sheriff Tom Dart and the other Illinois politicians should seriously look at the REAL PROBLEMS in their state before coming here to blame us for their problems, especially since our laws and our guns are NOT their real problem!

  5. Reading this article I began to wonder when Indiana began gun registration? Last time I checked there has never been any mechanism for any registration in this state. In fact the vast majority of states in this nation have no form of gun registration, yet we can always rely on the informed writers at The Times to promote misinformation about gun ownership.

For the record, free citizens of Indiana may own a gun in their home or business without any license. Citizens may carry a handgun, virtually everywhere in public, in Indiana with a special License To Carry a Handgun, issued by the state, after completing a full background check, fingerprinting, etc.
