  1. So the Off Duty Officers will be paid by Camelot - but is Camelot paying for the thousands of dollars on gas and maintenance of the cars they will be using for their security jobs or will these moonlighting officers be using their own vehicles. How much money can the city save by making these Officers at minimum reimburse the city for the use of the city vehicle for all their side jobs. Sounds like this is a good plan, but not very well thought through by big Junior and little Junior.

  2. I was at the council meeting and you are right he is supposed to explain money transfers and other budget items. It is not his place or responsibilty to introduce ordinances. He can request ordinance changes as they affect his office to the council to decide. Also if a councilperson wants to question the mayor or his ethics or personal travel it has nothing to do with the Clerk Treasurer.

  3. Don't you thiink it is about time someone tells Chris Stidham that he is the Clerk Treasurer and not on the City Council and certainly not the Mayor. It is not up to him to propose changes to ordinances. He just needs to make sure the bills get paid and leave the governing up to those who were elected to govern. He is also not the spokesperson for all city matters. For some dumb reason Synder decided to make him believe his position is more than it really is.

  4. That comment says a lot about your character, anyone who exercises their opinion opposite of yours must be an idiot. I am not as deeply involved in this as you but I do know Portage doesn't have that rule in place. My point is he should know better than putting himself in that position because of what it implies. It is not about local businesses getting small jobs in the city it is about big contractors in the city greasing the mayor for the big jobs. We will see who is right at the end of these four years, I bet Circle R will get preferential treatment with its bids.

  5. You will obviously go to your grave trying to defend this man and I respect your loyalty, but you completely misunderstood what my point was, which is that there is an appearance of pay to pay or payback - whether or not this was an innocent trip that Synder and Shields do every year (which I don't think it is - only since he is now mayor) or not. He should know better. It is also quite apparent you have much more knowledge about these interworkings and maybe I am speaking to Chuch Shields himself! But NO there should never be favoritism when you are playing with the taxpayers money - PERIOD! I am all about supporting local business but that should be done by the private sector not the government.

  6. Let's look at the facts here. 1. Whatever anyone did in the past has no bearing on what happened here. 2. Shields was an Olga supporter until he did not get the contract for the University Center, he was out to get her for that and supported her opponent (even though he doesn't live in Portage) He has been very outspoken in believing that since he is a Portage business he should get preference for that business. 3. Suddenly Synder gets elected and Circle R get's contracts - coinsidence ??? 4. While maybe they are friends now, don't think for one second this trip was nothing more than buddies going golfing and even if it was, it is in poor judgement for him to accept the this gift from a contracter that does business in the city. 5. The investigation needs to look at other gifts to sporting events, etc that Synder is accepting. This is just one more episode of this mayor thinking he doesnt have to follow rules. We were warned about that before the election.

  7. Did anyone notice the great city of Valpo is raising the fee for their automated pickup another $3.00. Right now jimmy says no charge, next year when it turns out costing more than he thought he will tack on additional fees to the taxpayers just like Valpo has done!

  8. This is the biggest example of political grandstanding and just trying to get your name and face in the paper I have ever seen. What this idiot is proposing is that we take the decision as to who we elect to office out of the hands of the citizens and voters. Just as he worries about the "same old tired politicians" being re-elected, what about those who do work hard and do the right thing for the city, we have to get rid of them too. Your buddy and our new mayor just gave the key to the city to one of them , Was he sincere in his comments or was that just political as well. Hmmm. Our rights as voters allows us to decide who we want in office or not - that process John is called an election. If you are so worried about money from special interest groups and war chests, go upstairs in city hall and ask the Mayor about that - he is a poster child for that. And guess what - if the voters of Portage have a problem with it they will vote him out. This city will never move forward if our council doesn't communicate or work together and focus their time on worthwhile and important issues. If you don't want to serve more than two terms then don't, keep up this stupidity and you won't even have to make that decision - THE VOTERS WILL!

  9. You really missed out - $60.00 for four days of fun was the best $60.00 I ever spent. That is only $15.00 per day of unlimited rides. It broke down to about a $1 ar ride for my kids. Abosultely the best Nativity Fest yet!
