  1. We don't need a constitutional convention. We need a States Convention to abolish the Federal Government. Only 34 states need to pass the resolution and we can dismantle the mess in Washington and start over. Maybe this is what the intent of the convention is.

  2. Stop giving out welfare and aid to unwed mothers. If they get pregnant once, then no more welfare unless they get sterilized. The poverty just keeps breeding.
Schools should be run like military training. Students either learn or get out, no more "no child left behind". The good ones are getting short changed, messing up their chance to get out of Gary.
Gary should be taken over by the County if they don't start streamlining and getting more competent people to run it.

  3. Lake County has hundreds of bank accounts spread out over all the local banks. There is no list of who is in charge and who writes the checks for these bank accounts.
The State told the County Council to review every town and city budget and then tell them where to cut to save money. Instead of doing their job, they reviewed the budgets and said that the County Council was not able to tell the cities where to cut so they just rubberstamped all the budgets. Then the Council cried they didn't have enough money so they borrowed $15 million.
We need to get rid of the same people who have been in County Government for the last 20 years. We need to start demanding efficiency and what is good for the taxpayers, not the politicians and their political party.

  4. Is this attorney an ornament? What is he there for, to make sure they hire a real attorney?
What is the Phobe person there for, anyway? She is from a Financial Group so what is her pupose? To point out this is the most expensive phase? Can't these guys count?

This airport is crucial to Gary's economic recovery. The extra baggage has to go, they are getting in the way and sucking up the money for the real assets.

  5. yes, Mr. Tippy, your staunch friend and big supporter, Rick Niemeyer, our recently elected State Representative, has coauthored in the House the Senate Bill 585 that gives the Lake County Council the incentive to pass the Lake County Income Tax. I just typed in 585 on the Indiana General Assembly webpage, cliked on "Actions" and his name, Hal Sleger and Charlie Brown are listed as co-authors, 2/26/13. So did Dan Dernulc also list Rick Niemeyer on his list of political office holders who support him?

  6. hey, you forgot one. All those REPUBLICAN representatives, two of which just left their grass roots, betrayed our trust and backed Senate Bill 585 - giving the Lake County Council the incentive to pass the local income tax. If they do, it goes into the General Fund instead of reducing the property tax. If they pass it, now the cap comes off. So now, our band of traitors can give us another tax and start raising the one that was frozen. Then, North County can get the lions share of the General Fund and South County gets to pay for it. Look it up on the Indiana Legislative Web Page. Type in 585 for bill, clik on Actions.

  7. We have been sold out by our REPUBLICAN representatives at the State Level. Senate Bill 585 was coauthored by all the Democrats from North county and Sue Landske, Rick Niemeyer, Hal Slaeger from South County. If the Lake County Council passes the income tax, the money collected will go into the General Fund. It will not be used to reduce property taxes. It will be doled out to the North County as they see fit. We have been betrayed. On top of that, these sell-outs are backing another politician to take over the Lake County GOP. He just happens to be on the LAKE COUNTY COUNCIL.

  8. Kim Krull is not a politician. That is a good thing. I am very disturbed that Dan Denurlc is endorsed by all these other politicians. I do not want the Lake County GOP to be run by politicians, but by the taxpaying and voting residents. Politicians will not do what is good for the taxpayers, but what is good for their political base. I am wondering if this challenge to Allan Katz is also fueled by the State Republican Party pushing for an income tax in Lake County and trying to "take over" the grass root effort to stop it. Are we being sold out by the State Delegates we helped to elect?

  9. The Lake County Council was required by the State to review each city and town budget within it's borders. Instead of telling these redundant governments to CUT their own budgets so Lake County could reallocate the limited tax dollars to what the county needs, they said they weren't qualified to decide if the budgets were ok or not and let cities slide. Lake Station cut a huge amount of waste (thousands) - but Dyer said they could not find anything. So now the County has to borrow 15 million to keep operating. I say, take over the cities budgets just like the State took over Gary and stop the waste, redundancy, corruption, kickbacks, and INCOMPETENCE of the people who are in these municipal governments. Taxpayers missed their chance to change on Nov 6. "You get all the crummy, corrupt government you vote for." quote from Mitch D.

  10. This plant is viable. The newspaper keeps saying it is "unproven " technology but there are already two plants build in the US that work. The Lowell Town Council did not do anything wrong, they want to use the trash plant to the town's advantage and the backers need committments for the "raw material". The agreement is non-binding so it does not hurt the town, only helps the trash plant get built. Why does the newspaper keep going after this topic? Does the editor have a personal vendetta?
