  2. I agree taxpayer. if strong and dernulc have a plan they need to publicize it in detail with dollar amounts to back it up. if they want to be leaders, that what leaders do. otherwise they are just warming a seat and collecting a check and we can all take care of that next year when elections come around.

The buzzards are already feasting on the borrowed money. It wasn't earmarked for keeping the lights on or essential services such as police protection. Frey, the coroner, wants 4 NEW VEHICLES! This will NEVER end if we the taxpayers of Lake Co do not stand up and demand that this council put its house in order first before taking any more of our hard earned money!

I urge all of you to sign this petition and show up Tuesday at the council meeting!

  4. Christine Cid works for Clerk Mike Brown (D)-Gary. She may be coerced into voting for this tax (remember she was already moved once for not following the party line). The reason the state legislature got involved in the LC taxing process is because of all the graft, nepotism, and corruption that has plagued us for so long. It caused out of control spending and now we must force those in control of our money to make tough decisions just like companies and families must in hard times. Grabbing more of our money will do nothing in the long run but continue to give an incentive to move out of Lake Co and businesses will continue to pass us up for better managed communities such as Hamilton and Marion. Look who is on the county council right now. You have a union rep, cop, fireman, phone guy, and a gal who works for the county clerk. These people are charged with managing a budget of over $140 million and I wonder if collectively they even have the equivalent of a college degree. Now instead of looking at alternative ways to manage the county (consolidation and cuts) they want to impose a tax that will generate another $90 million when right now they were only in need of $15 million. Think people! What are they going to do with the other $75 million? What is to stop them from increasing it next year to 2% then 3%! Don't let them grab more money now or it will surely be the demise of Lake County!

"We, the Lake County Taxpayers, demand better government. We do NOT want another tax on us to fulfill county government spending. We cannot afford to lose up to 3% of our incomes when most of us, who are still employed, have not even had a raise in the last 5 years. Many Lake County residents are retired and on fixed incomes and receive less than a 2% increase in Social Security each year.

We further resolve and pledge to vote against any County Councilman or County Commissioner in the next election who votes FOR any additional taxes on us before decreasing the county budget by cutting waste or selling assets."

  6. they will never get to 12 times the state average (currently at 22) so I wouldn't worry about it too much. the dlgf will have taken over by then and i doubt the dlgf will be able to get to just 12 times the state average in that short period of time.
