- This awful crime has absolutely nothing to do with what school system she went to! Not sure why that was brought up??

- That's too bad you left MHS! Administration has set high standards and expectations for students now, there are amazing things happening at Merrillville. Check out the website and you'll see. Yes, culture has changed but with the proper teacher training and with awesome security, I can tell you first hand that what you just said does not occur at MHS.

- Merrillville does in fact have a successfull alternative school program. However, when students break school rules and the law by putting their peers and others at risk, then alternative school is not the answer at this point. These students need an intense intervention by starting at LCJC. Family therapy needs to be in line for them as well. It's a shame that all of these comments bring such a negative stereotype to Merrillville Community School and especially the Gary community. One thing to keep in mind is that Merrillville is an A school and has a 90% graduation rate!! Thank you teachers, administration, and counselors for all you do for students. Let's put this in the past and move forward to positive future for our kids.

- The Hidden Lake Softball Program has become such a joke the last couple years after changes have been made. First off, who wants to pay $600 for a program that is not managed by a knowledgeable athletic director? It's pathetic and sad the township made these awful changes to such a fun softball program that went on for many years. I guess when a new trustee comes in and listens to people who have no clue how to run a program, bad results come about! It's a good thing other area towns and cities have great softball programs!

- Ok, regardless if it's their salaries, you're telling me the township's "fire" fund has nothing to do with the increase of taxes we'll be paying this year? If you know anything about being facetious, then you'd realize that my comment was obviously not to be taken seriously! I totally agree that Merrillville needs firefighters and yes I know that Merrillville is still a town but with the changes in the fire service, it should be a city now. Why didn't the previous trustee who was in office for over 25 years have full time firefighters? Talk about complete nepotism!

- I wonder how much the prices will go up this season? The Trustee needs more money for all of his buddies he hired as full time firemen. What happened to Merrillville being a town, a "volunteer" fire station?? Watch out Ross Township Residents, you'll be seeing a tax increase! Happy New Year!
