  1. The city had a Democratic mayor for two decades before Costas. Like the country we live in, it's about half Democrats, friend. Unlike Gary, which skews much higher that way because of social, economic, and racial factors there that don't boil down to who "works" and who doesn't. The evidence, by the way, is that--in the U.S. and around the world--the harder people work, the *less* money they get paid. Which is to say, poor people are almost all hard-working people--some of the hardest-working.

    If only people--on the Internet and elsewhere--could work together instead of thoughtless name-calling. Look: I have a job, at which I work, and a college degree, for which I worked, and I was born and raised in Valpo. And yes, I usually vote Democrat. Can we have a conversation instead of sitting around on the internet making blanket assumptions and name-calling?
