  1. Actually what a lot of people dismiss as 'creation' bills, are actually simple academic freedom bills. It's true that science class has to be scientific, that's a given. But that doesn't mean kids have to be force fed just one view, or that they can't be taught to think for themselves and examine both the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence and the different interpretations of that evidence.

As for the prayer part, I understand it's complicated, given the pluralism of society today, but I still think that if people hadn't been so eager to kick God out of everywhere they could, our kids might not be going around hurting and killing each other. If nothing else, turn to private schools or homeschool...public schools are too far gone to be of good use these days.

  2. One quick PS: I do understand how complex rape scenarios can be...but I do think it's wrong to add violence to violence and punish the helpless baby for the sins of its father. I wish more people could hear the stories of rape victims who've carried their babies and the now-adults who were born of such pregnancies.

  3. No, not end of story. Legal doesn't mean right. Slavery was legal and no one would say it was right. The unborn are human beings and deserve protection as human beings under the law. When that happens, THEN it will be 'end of story'.

  4. There's some faulty logic in the letter. No one's forcing anyone to get pregnant...that's what abstinence and birth control are for. I can understand trying to save the life of the mother, though these days the data is so mixed...some saying it's necessary, others saying it isn't. And adoption should be the default for mothers who can't care for their children (though having services to help mothers in need would help too)

The 'do not judge' part is often taken out of context...God didn't intend for people not to speak out against sin and wrongs, though he did intend people to look at their own lives before talking to others so we aren't hypocrites.

As for the 'don't want one, don't get it but don't stop others' logic, just substitute in 'kill' or 'rape' or 'steal'...that part of it clearly fails. When something is wrong, it should be spoken against.

And the other problem is that it isn't just the woman and doctor, the baby's involved as well. It's not part of the mother's body.

I do agree that attitudes need to change before anything else can happen...just making it illegal won't solve the problem. For that to happen, people have to change and stop seeing killing as the default answer and start seeing the unborn as the human beings they are. People need to be willing to take precautions and stop unwanted pregnancies from ever happening. (in the case of birth defects, it's definitely wrong...people shouldn't send the message that children who aren't 'normal' don't deserve to live.)

  5. There've been many good replies to this one. If you want a country without God, go try living in communist China or talk to the people who lived through Soviet Russia. That's what happens when God is kicked out completely-repression,unfairness and lack of regard for human rights. And the presence of evil and suffering does not mean God is weak or negate his existance. It's a fact of living in a fallen world that is no longer in its original perfection because of man's sin. Sickness and death were brought into the world, but God also gave us doctors and medicine for treatment, and because our bodies are mortal and die, he gave us Jesus as the atonment for sin and to escape the final death that sin brings. I'm not a theologian, but I'd suggest checking out sites like christiananswers.net or answersingenesis.org...even if you don't accept the young earth part, they still explain suffering and death better than I can, though I said most of it.

  6. What the Bible says is the best reason to support something. God's truth is the real truth and it's what should be supported. Real marriage between a man and a woman should be protected.

  7. It's about love and commitment the way God intended it. It's not about what we want to be right, it's about what God clearly says is good and what is sinful. He set standards for our lives and created marriage to be ONE MAN, ONE WOMAN, end of story. We can't simply redefine what God designed, and sin is still sin, no matter how you try to normalize it. And before anyone makes any Leviticus remarks, the old testament law was superseeded by the coming of Christ. That's why the stuff about shellfish and stoning and mixed fabrics isn't followed anymore (though Jews still follow some of the laws). But the sanctity of marriage is re-iterated in the new testament and the fact that anything else is sin is still made clear.
