  1. I am not a teacher nor affiliated with the education field as I'm sure most of the commentors are not. I do not have children. What I think people do not understand is that Munster receives one of the LOWEST per student payouts from the state. East Chicago, Gary and other "struggling" districts receive the highest. Munster property taxes are not going to directly to the school system but to the state, who then divies it up. The referendum is going to help among other things to keep teachers from being fired and to keep class size reasonable. The money is not going to facilities. There is a direct correlation between the school district quality and property values. If you're plannin' on selling your house in the next 10 years, you should probably vote yes. Perhaps residents should attend one of the forums before going off the deep end.
