  1. Har, har, har. That's a good one. Millions of openings in pharma and engineering in the paper? Desperate employers seeking graduates? I don't think so.

  2. There are few fields where a college degree ensures employment in a person's chosen course of study. Using your logic, should everyone go into engineering, accounting, or medicine? That is unrealistic nonsense. How many job openings actually exist in these fields, versus the total number of college graduates each year? The problem is that most employers require a college degree for even the most basic entry level positions, so what is one to do to better themselves? Restricting ones access to higher education and loans is not the answer. The bottom line is still that we do a poor job of educating young people at the high school level, which forces them to pay up for a college degree which offers no guarantee of employment. The system is broken, and it is not necessarily the students' fault.

  3. The complete and total failure of our society to find sensible and affordable solutions to the cost of higher education will doom thousands - if not millions - of people to a lifetime of horrid indebedness. Once many of these people are forced into defaulting on these massive loans, the ripple effect will make our mortgage loan crisis seem like a walk in the park. The average citizen has been backed into a corner by years of corrupt government and greedy business decisions. Eventually, disenfranchised legions of Americans will fight back, and when they do it won't be a pretty sight.

  4. No matter what, this man's credibility has certainly been questioned. Hard to respect a police officer who has shown such poor judgement. I figure he will eventually trip and fall over some other miscue, then that will be it for him on the CPPD.

  5. Good luck finding a neighboring township who would be interested in taking on Griffith, clearly a community barely hanging on. Everyone would be better off if the state took over Calumet Township and put an end to its history of corruption.

  6. Can we clarify something here? The United Way is not itself a charity. It is an organization that collects funds and parcels the money it collects to charities who submit their monetary requests on a regular basis. Many of these charities do not have the money or manpower available to launch and run a fundraising effort on their own, and this is the only area where the United Way comes in handy. The United Way does not offer their services for free to these charities, and for lack of a better term it is in the business of raising money. Anyone who is truly interested in helping out the charity of their choice would get more for their donation to pass on the United Way and make their contributions directly to the group they favor.

  7. We've known for some time that a county income tax was mandated by our lords and masters in Indy. Too bad we haven't demanded accountability from the hacks who run this county, because now we are going to feel the pain of their ineptitude right where it hurts the most.

  8. Insurance companies should not have to pay off on pain and suffering claims that exceed coverage limits. Conversely, they should be required to only authorize new parts in cases of automotive repair (unless the items in question are no longer available new), and the difference between the ACV of a destroyed vehicle and a comparable new replacement should be offered in cases where the owner of the destroyed vehicle is not found to be at fault. Finally, our court system must take an aggressive, unrelenting, zero-tolerance approach to all DUI's.

  9. Might as well put a tent on that site, because Fiat won't be around for long.

  10. How about making the people's servants work 2000 hours per year, with a maximum of four weeks vacation and 5 sick days, with an additional 5 personal days after 10 years on the job? That seems a reasonable expectation to offset their modest wages and excellent health care package. These people get too much paid time off, and we taxpayers deserve more from them in return.
