- Our family thanks Todd Rokita for supporting school choice. School choice in Indiana has nothing to do with supporting religion. One of our children attends Hoosier Academy Virtual School, one of the so called failing charter schools. I want the commenters to know that there is nothing religious about the content of this type of charter school, it is traditional education. Moreover, the quality of the teachers, curriculum, and support has far surpassed any traditional school our children have attended. The failing grades from charter schools is coming from the fact that new students are constantly joining because their traditional schools fail them. It takes time for the charter schools to bring the students to the required state level. Additionally, this charter school allows my 6th grader to be challenged by taking several high school classes, where as our local 4 star public school would let him sit in bordom for the next few years. School choice is important because not all children are "average". High ability and academically challenged students are better served by the charter schools that can adapt curriculum to their needs. School choice is essential for these types of families. Ask your self this question, if Indiana nationally ranked a C+ in education, don't you think that we needed to try something new? This new solution is exactly what school choice is.
