  1. With you 100% on that comment Tim. Susan, I am rarely in your corner on anything but you are spot on on this one. As I replied to another commenter, isn't it nice to find that we, who usually can never agree on anything, find that we do have common ground. Kind regards, Kim Ferraro, Crown Point

  2. Ah, Susan. This comment points out exactly why eliminating the Times comment section will be so deleterious. When you listen to/read opinions (and yes that site is mostly opinion and very little news) that only agree with your opinion you certainly never get the whole story. And that goes for both sides of the argument.

  3. The Times letters to the editor section is a joke. They won't devote enough print space to have a relevant conversation about anything, they don't give enough wordage to merit a well supported opinion and sometimes I think they just pull letters from a hat. The beauty of online conversations is that it normally is not space restricted. The fact that the Times controls what letters are printed pretty much devalues the conversation. 4. If anyone would like to see a vibrant, relevant, well structured comments section, you should visit the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Wisconsin is probably the most politically divided state in the nation and it shows in the comments section but so far, no move to abolish the comments, nor to require real name identification. Of course, the MJS also is an old fashioned investigative newspaper and the regular winner of Pulitzer Prizes. Their reporting can stand the scrutiny of reader comments. Just sayin'. 5. Always wished there was a thumbs up, thumbs down option to the comments section. You would get a thumbs up. Kim Ferraro, Crown Point

  6. Howard, I object to your attribution of hateful. Please point out how someone, like say Mill, was hateful. Or, for that matter, me. I never really noticed your posts as being diametrical to mine but they must have been if you paint liberals as hateful. I will agree with your comment that the Times now having total control of the conversation as being bothersome. Isn't it nice when people of differing opinions can find some common ground? 7. It was an auction. I can think of no way that determines fair value better than an auction. The house needs major repairs and has been vacant for six years. Some of the commenters need to try making some relevant observations. Of course the people involved in the auction looked serious, they were bidding on something that was going to require $100K+ outlay, I sure hope they were serious. JBird, just wondering where you live that is so much better than CP? Kim Ferraro, Crown Point

  8. Hadn't realized before what slimy names were involved in this development. A lot of people with hands in each other's pockets. If the Times were doing any real reporting they would be tying together those involved with their past behaviors, not that it would make any difference. This area is particularly prone to ignoring common sense for pie-in-sky ideas. Kim Ferraro, Crown Point

  9. Interesting, I didn't think the comments section in this paper was THAT bad with legitimate threats that the Times needed to worry about it. Sniping back and forth? That's what the scroll button is for. But I'd really like to know what is considered hateful speech. I had two comments removed lately and I NEVER call names, reference nasty words, etc. Yes, I disagree with your position. Yes, I usually try to call you out If I think you are posting unsupported ideas. Am I not allowed to counter a different religious position than you do? Sure seems like the bible believers are allowed that option without being challenged. I'll be sad to see this go because it was the thing that gave the definite edge to reading the Times online as opposed to the P-T. Now the Times will have total control over the conversation that takes place in the Region about news-worthy items. THAT is a sad situation. Kim Ferraro, Crown Point.
