  2. If the mayor paid ten million for eight jobs, if the mayor paid ten million for anything, the city would be broke. Where exactly did the mayor get the ten million and who received the ten million? Was it paid in cash, check and / or will it be paid out in installments? Or perhaps, the ten million is in the form of abatements (discounts) on taxes yet to be paid. A discount is not the same thing as a give-away of other people's money. The city never had the ten million in the first place for the mayor to give it away in the second place. That is more than mere symantics, it is facts. The new business is not costing the city one thin dime. The new business is improving heavy industrial property, that everyone knows was in great need of fresh investment. The day will come when full taxes will be collected for the betterment of the city as well as the county. When that day comes, you too shall receive your free garbage can and will rejoyce. Because that is what it is all about, isn't it? The richy-rich get their's, so where is my free garbage can? bzzzz, bzzzzz, bzzzzz. Pathetic.

  3. if there was a procedure in the current court structure, it would already be in practice. Sorry, a bit too simplistic. Ya gotta get into the nitty gritty of the court system and budgeting. More often than not, the veteran is in 'the sytem' because of his / her service. This is not just another nonsense way to waste taxpayers money. Further, the bill was tabled because of the extensive lobby efforts by Geminus Corp. The funding for the court was coming out of the budget from which Geminus gets paid - what is good for veterans and their famlies is bad for Geminus. And because Geminus spreads money around the county (pays for Hammond PD dog for example) officers, K9 handler from Hammond, spoke against the veterans. Just typical of da Region. A bill goes before the various political bodies in Indy and the legislators get to witness infighting and back-stabbing. I don't think those coppers were speaking against this vet bill without direction from the highest levels of the administrations. And why didn't Rep Candeleria Reardon get this all hashed out with the locals before running the bill to the legislature? The whoe thing is just shamefull. Just reeks of greed and ineptitude.

  6. Now that one of the TV networks broke ground on tastelessness toward the 'Nam vets, maybe Lake County government can take a cue from the Great Race Show at the nice luncheon. If the network can stage a bunch of American contestants to watch, listen and repeat the greatness of the Vietnam Communist Partry, than why not have our Lake County government have a singing group perfrom "Deutschland uber alles - uber alles in der Weld” and their little luncheon? That would be so nice. Better than having all of those mean men running around our nice grass with nasty guns. Nary has a day gone by where Lake County government does not fail to disappoint. Ain't that just so nice of them all, to perform such a nice service, for all of us little people ..... PUKE!

  7. I believe that cancellation of this event is taking a page from the national democrat party and Obama administration instruction book on how to rile up the common-folk to get tax increases. Plus there is something to be said for throwing WWII living history to the ditch as a statement of political correctness by a bunch of government functionaries. More education than anyone might have found in a textbook. Living, breathing history by people that lived it and people that dedicate their lives to it. This event netted $685. Net. Not loss. Net. Net means that there is NO COST TO THE TAXPAYERS! How much do we spend on county Park and Rec boardmembers' county take-home cars? Gasoline? How much do we pay these people! Too much, I say! How many people visit the new Buckley Astronomy Center? Telescopes are nice. Telescopes and pictures of stars (white dots on black paper) are nice. Guns are meand. Guns kill people. Guns are bad. Guns kept you free so that you can go to Purdue and study "Leisure Activities" ! And replacing this living history with a light lunch that nobody will attend. Do they really think that students of military and military history are interested in a light lunch? As usual, they think that the WWII vets will be forever grateful for another free lunch. Well, in a couple more years, they will all be gone and then we can just ditch the lunch altogether and go back to our nice peaceful green grass and look at little white dots in the sky, munch a granola bar and sip vitamin water. How nice. AAAARRRRGGGHHH!!!!!

  8. Don't make too many road improvemens, Merrillville. Before the paint is dry on the expanded roadway, and tax abatements get kind of stale, they will skip town just like they are doing to Munster. Good riddance to them and all of the flaming truck traffic. The traffic congestion, noise and road damage is not worth the few low-pay jobs. I don't think any employees lived in Munster anyway.

  9. I am non-plussed that there are still people that think light rail is an economic or environmental answer to highways. time and time again, study after study shows that light rail cost more than automobiles and assosciated highways, and has a larger carbon footprint. Besides, people will not ride the stupid train anyway. If light rail might be said to be successfull, it is between major suburban centers and the big city down town routs. those routs are few and they are subsidized. No east-west rail will work in our area. Build the highway. If you want a peacefull environment, you should have built another 50 miles further out. This is no longer 1950. The population has, and is, growing. You cannot demand that the suburbs stop growing. You cannot demand control of all of the countryside that you do not own. Watch out! People are coming! You might even have a neighbor some day. Oh, my! Might even be the doctor that saves your sorry keester from a fatal attack.
