  1. Once again the Times has provided a forum for people to make stupid comments for which they know nothing about. Let's just first off start by saying that the United States Supreme Court has ruled that a police dog can be called to do a free air sniff around any vehicle from which has been pulled over, as long as it is done within a reasonable time.

Second, when a dog alerts on a vehicle it then gives officers probable cause to search the vehicle, without a warrant. Also...when a dog alerts to a vehicle for the presence of drugs and Officers do not find any it means one of two things. 1) The person hid the drugs very well..or there were drugs recently in the vehicle and the dog's nose is so strong that it can still smell the lingering odor from when they were in there (which is probably what happened in this case).

With all this said, I know this will never happen but will some of you please learn what you are speaking about before making a moronic comment that makes you look stupid. Finally for all for all of those people who don't like that police have this much say in their jobs...blame the Supreme Court..not police. Remember..you elect your president, who appoints Supreme Court Justices

  2. Happy Porter Co Res.

I appreciate your interpretation of the law as well. I was just trying to explain it as simple as possible as if it were being to explained to someone who has no knowledge of the law, as clearly some of our readers do. Thank you for giving us the more legal interpretation in from a LP Officer stand point as I can clearly see you are familiar with their policies and wordings more than I am. Hopefully people like Purdue will get the idea.

  3. Purdue,

Like many on this website, you express your so called, "legal knowledge" upon us and have no idea what you are talking about. As a "legal professional" I will explain to you that you don't have to necessarily walk out of the store to prove intent of theft.

When someone steals something at a place like Wally World, generally loss prevention will observe them and wait for them to bypass the registers, like this "gentleman" did. Upon doing so, they have created enough reason for them to believe that the person is attempting to steal said items. On top of bypassing the registered you have a loss prevention officer observing this "gentleman" place the items into a backpack in an attempt to possibly conceal them.

Therefore, by putting the items in a concealed sack, and bypassing registers, you have showed intent to steal. Thus warranting the LP to confront the individual. Then you have the "gentleman" running from police and refusing to obey commands.

I wish liberals would learn that their liberal thinking, like Purdue's comments above are ruining our society. I bet if this guy did 6 months to a year in the slammer he'd think twice about stealing again. If not, throw him away for double, and so on.

  6. I really with these "thugs" would just stay in their neighborhoods and stop ruining places where law abiding citizens go to do their shopping and work. Stay in Gary!

  7. AWESOME! happy he got aquitted. I'm tired of Congress sticking their nose in sports, when it absolutely does not belong. They need to address more important problems in this country. Maybe this is the start of them learing to keep their big egos out of sports!

For the people who think this is some BS conspiracy or have bad things to say about the police, do us all a favor, the next time someone steals something from you, assualts you, or you need help in general, remember who you bad mouthed on here, because you'll be needing them
