  1. The "AR" in AR-15 stands for Armalite, the company where the rifle was first invented for the U.S. army in 1957. The design and the "AR-15" trademark were later sold to Colt in 1959 who successfully marketed to the army. At no time has the "AR" meant anything else. And no, the shooter did not modify his rifle to increase the rate of fire. It cannot be done without a CNC machine and the internal dimensions of a full auto lower receiver and the M-16 fire control parts. Despite the internet and gun show bravado, the "conversions" don't work. But they can net you 10 years in club Fed for trying.
