People, read the paper. Every school district has had to do this,Crown Point, Wheeler and Chesterton are just a few. Because the school board has been careful with money this is the first time cutting teachers and programs have been needed. Please realize that the money to build the High School over 10 years ago is funded differently and did not come out of the General Fund that just about everything else is paid out of. I live in Hebron, my children are out of school and my taxes will go up also. The blame here falls squarely on the legislators. All the money that Daniels "found" should have been put back into education. They have cut millions from public schools. Some went to private voucher systems. If you read the paper yesterday you will see that some of these Charter schools are so bad that the colleges that backed them have dropped their charters with them. Still they got our money. For those of you that think nothing has been done to trim the school budget, you are wrong. Teachers that retired or passed away were never replaced. Classroom budgets to buy necessities are almost nonexistent and aides are down to a third of what they were. The school is at bare bones. If you went to the informational meeting that George Letz had you would have heard that Hebron teachers are the lowest paid teachers in Porter County and have not had a raise in years. I overheard one of the teachers say that she makes $136.00 less a pay period than she did 10 years ago. That's $272.00 less a month. So if you think the teachers and staff are somehow going to benefit monetarily by this referendum you are sorely mistaken.
