  1. While it would be nice if he let the family have it there for a week or 2, it's the land owners property and he has the right to say he doesn't want it there. I personally have a problem with crosses that pop up after someone has died. That's what cemeteries are for. Those roadside crosses are distracting, unsightly and most people don't take care of them.

  4. Ms. Elgin says "A person coming in for assistance may not have the information or is hesitant to give it" ... If a person wanting help, can't or won't give out personal information to get the help, then they should get no help until they can supply it themselves. If they make it over the 72 hour mark, the onus should be on the person seeking help, not the Township. Help us help you. Start demanding and stop coddling.

  5. This is really subjective. Maybe your favorite grocery items are cheaper for you elsewhere, but the items I buy are always cheaper at Stracks for me. I went into Wiseway for some last minute Thansgiving items and actually contemplated leaving and traveling the extra total 20 minutes to Stracks. What may be true for you is not necessarily true for others. And I say this as a person who was raised shopping at Wiseway.

  6. There are also some Crown Point address that actually lie in Porter County. Those residents attend Porter Township schools. This is something that you research when you buy a house and make a decision about at that time. These days, it's fairly easy to stay involved in a community, just refer to the town web site for community happenings. If you want to be involved in Crown Point, you can make it happen!

  7. ...Chicago is a different story. It, by the way, is in much better financial shape than the rest of the state.

And if you ask an Illinois resident who doesn't live in Chicago, the consensus will be that Chicago is dragging the rest of the state down. Perception differs from one person to the next.

  9. You know, I really didn't have an opinion on the border until 5 years ago. I had business in San Antonio and had dinner with 3 local couples. 2 were of hispanic origin. One couple was actually from Mexico and used to drive back home to Mexico and drive here to work. I asked, "are the border problems really that bad?" They told me that something needed to be done. They told me about the horrible things that were happening that didn't seem to make it out of their local news. The couple from Mexico had just finally moved to the US and they were the most adament about it. These poor people have to live with this nightmare in their own yards. They opened my eyes. More people should ask the locals who have to deal with this issue for their thoughts. I found out illegal immigration is not just about someone's grandma wanting to come over to work. It is about drugs, prostitution, guns, running from the law, all happening right in front of their children. And 2 out of the 3 couples (who all agreed) were hispanic. Are they racist, or just scared?
