  1. Wow CommonSense, this is what you're saying? If that's true, then how come so many who sat around bonfires as children aren't sick because of breathing in smoke from it? And please, as it is in today's world in Indiana, noone can smoke inside except in a 21 and over privately owned business where the owner explicitly lets its customers know that smoking is allowed, AND not all such businesses choose to permit smoking anyway.

And I wouldn't quite say vehicle emissions haven't been without harmful effects. How come global average temperatures have been warming up slowly, along with non-vehicle CO2 emissions(i.e. factories) that have been slowly building up in our atmosphere for 150-200 years? I'd worry far more about that than any brief wisps of cigarette smoke you may briefly breathe outside(or in the very few businesses that permit it inside, post-Indiana smoking ban, and which also you can freely choose not to go to), IMHO.

  2. I live in IL, and it doesn't matter. You can still find enough bars that are quietly 'smokeasies' and ignore the law, while others exist(often the more yuppie/upscale places, but still I find places that defy that description) that obey the law, so there are options for both those who whine needlessly to death for no smoking inside, and those who would rather like a bar they can smoke at.

If IN was stupid enough(and hopefully, they don't) to strengthen their smoking ban to include over 21 businesses, many bars would end up quietly ignoring the law just to stay in business, like Illinois. Thankfully, a high number of suburbs in Cook County knew that it was better to respect free choice than to pass total restrictions when local control passed(and when Cook tried forcing a total ban over the will of village, town, etc. councils), and few south suburbs went the way of Park Forest, Orland Park, Lemont, etc.
