  7. The reason is very simple: politics. If you look at all the states that that have passed so-called "right-to-work" laws, there is a conspiracy to eviscerate every voting block that generally votes democratic. Indiana is such a state. The plan is to destroy public education and replace it with vouchers and charter schools. These schools do not have unions or teacher associations. The teachers are hired "at will" and can be controlled by whoever is in power. Here's the equation: no public schools=no teacher groups=no democratic voting block. The state is a perfect example of power and abuse. The party in charge touts its record of shrinking government but here you have a DOE that has taken control of every facet of public education and almost eliminated any local control (i.e. contracts, health insurance, rules, testing, local taxes replaced by state taxes.) Here you have a state where the governor can appoint the trustees to a university and then have them hire him as president. The question is: who in Indiana is better off now than they were before Mitch? How ironic that the very communities that supported Mitch have been the most shafted! Mitch and Tony visit the charter schools, the failing schools but don't come to the ones that manage to survive their hatchet.

  8. Rosetta Stone users beware!!!! The program is based on a completely disproved theory: People do NOT learn a second language like a first language. This is a fact and Rosetta's ads on the radio that claim differently are a lie. Furthermore, there are numerous studies that show that the program does NOT prepare students for AP classes, college credit and cannot be used for most dual-credit programs. Frequently, it is used to employ fewer qualified teachers.
